Nice collection.

I think it is a pretty reasonable idea to try to have one watch for each of the categories of watches you need/want.

Buying entire collections at one time seem a little strange, though. Maybe to start it makes sense, but I don't see why you'd wait 5 years and then buy another collection. If I wanted to go the one per category route, I'd simple keep an eye out for new watches to slowly take the place of the pieces in my current collection over time.

Are you a liar, bipolar, a Nixon rep., or some combination of the three?

Wow sick detective work. Since only the one posts mentions Nixon I'd rule that one out. My guess is he's either a liar or multiple persons using the account.

Since Posts 1 and 3 seem to match, I'd guess college freshman was an error. He probably meant to say graduate.

God I'm really torn now. I already bought an Oris for my everyday watch but I REALLY either want to get an Overseas Vacheron Constantin for 7.6k or a IWC Port for 5.4k. So hard to decide.

very high price for a grey market piece on that iwc port...you can prolly get the same from an AD with the full warranty and peace of mind.

get tudor here:

bleh novelty might wear off...for that kind of money you can get smth else.

You think I could get it for 5.5k at an AD? There is only one that I know of in Oregon (at least thats what the IWC website says). Is there a certain percentage that AD's will be willing to drop off the sticker price?

I saw a press release for the new Raymond Weil Maestro Mechanical line. Some of you might be interested in them. They are great watches, around $1300 bucks and are ****-hot gorgeous in my opinion.

Nice guilloche work and beautiful Breguet-style hands.

Raymond Weil is nice, but I get the same overpriced feeling with this brand as when I see Baume & Mercier for example.

Edit: as I posted this, I wanted to back it up a little bit and researched those Maestro watches, and they appear to have a Sellita SW200 movement in, which is a cloned ETA-2824.

I am looking to buy a watch in the 2-5k range. I have looked around a lot online and at various watch stores but still looking, thought I'd ask you guys for some help.

-circular face
-I like white and black a lot
-rubber or bracelet. Likely not leather.
-I have a pretty small wrist so I dont know how big I want to go.

Here are some pics of watches that I really like. I think they all might be a little too big but I really like the style.

thanks

if you want to go with the more traditional/classic diver you can get this in 42mm:

but if you want a chrono on the planet ocean they only make that in 45mm i think which is may be too big for you.

i love that IWC though.

thoughts on getting the railmaster as a first 'nice' watch?

My thoughts: Excellent choice, no arguments here. Get it on the bracelet, and buy the strap as well for some versatility.

Im in the market for a watch in the 3.5-4.5k range.

Here's a few that come to mind.

Panerai Luminor Base 112

I love the Pam and have been wanting one forever. But every other guy I know has one.

IWC Classic Pilot Chrono

Haven't actually seen this in person, anyone care to comment on IWC in general?

Omega Aqua Terra Chronograph

I have a Omega Seamaster that was given to me as a HS graduation gift. It's been 9 years and I still rock it. The only down side is that if I'm spending this much money, I kinda want more than an Omega.

What do you guys think? I would also like to have something that holds it's value

i like the look of the IWC Pilot the best out of those 3

IWC is awesome, that watch is awesome... I have the Spitfire model and only because I can't have a black dial on every watch I own (although the Spitfire is great).

If you are a pilot watch fan, that IWC is a lay up. You will love it.

Of these, the IWC is the nicest IMO.

This is funny because a lot of the panny fanbois harp about "exclusivity" as one of the big reasons to buy a PAM. Meanwhile, as you've noticed, every douchebag bartender in Miami has one.

Heh. Buy gold, then? Watches are a fickle market. For the most part, if you buy anything new you're going to take a bath when you sell it. You might get lucky if you buy a limited edition piece AND it gets some buzz AND you happen to sell it before everyone moves on to the next flavor of the week.

If you really are concerned about holding value, buy used pieces. You'll still generally lose money on each flip but the percentages will be much, much less brutal.
