Now that I think about it, though, that may not be a good one to wear on a leather strap. It has a HUGE bracelet that is like 26mm but the lugs are only 20mm, so any leather strap you wear with it will look disproportionately skinny.

There are a ton of pics in this thread: http://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?p=892708

How about a Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chrono? Highly respected manufacturer and beautiful watches...This one is rose gold, not sure of the price.

Do guys wear Hublots with dress clothes? I actually think Big Bangs are decent looking clunky sports watches, but always thought spending 10k on a watch that would look absurd with anything dressy seems nuts. Not the most absurd thing about the brand, but one I always thought was interesting about em.

Must have:

Case Diameter of at least 44mm (ideally something like 48, I'm looking for somewhat of a monster watch on this)
Chronograph

Ideally will have these, but is not a requirement:
Leather band
Black as the main color
Automatic movement
Price <1k

The more of these criteria that can be met, the better.
everything checked...48mm less than 1k no chrono

MEbenhoe,

A few other ideas depending on which way you want to go.

If you're into divers, check the Seiko SBBN011 "Darth Tuna".

It's 48mm, one-piece titanium with a ceramic shroud, 1000m depth rating. around $1k. It's quartz, but it's got a very, very unique movement. Some discussion about the 7C46 here: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/sh...&postcount=717 Basically, it's one of a VERY small number of quartz movements designed expressley for use in dive watches. It's robust as hell, and if I were actually a diver I would wear this watch (as a backup to a dive computer).

Something even bigger and automatic, the Citizen "autozilla" (NH6931-06E). I think these are like 55mm.

I've got a few non-diver pieces in mind as well, but I need to track down some pics and specs and stuff.

Agreed. I would never wear mine with a suit, they work very well with dressier clothes.

MEbenhoe,

As cxbxax pointed out, there are a lot of pilot-style watches that will fit here, but they all are going to look basically the same. The Archimede is a good one IMO and reasonably priced.

There's even an automatic chrono that's just a bit out of your price range.

http://www.gnomonwatches.com/archime...ronograph.html

Only 42mm, but at $1200 that seems like a pretty sweet deal. I was not aware of that one.

The Sinn 103 may work for you as well.

This is also 42mm and ~$1500.

The CSAR is big and has an auto chrono movement, but is $2700

my stingray strap for my panerai just got here and it looks pretty sick. my roomate has a nice camera, ill prob borrow it later and take some pix. you other guys who wear panerais dabble much in aftermarket straps? seems like a really cool and cheap way to spruce up your watch collection...i think im going to be doin more of it.

do the more expensive watches not do that?
It's been at least 25 years since any watch has done that to me. It was a Casio with a thin band.

Found this watch on Overstock for $1,229.99 (48mm):

I seem to find myself really liking a lot of the Jacques Lemans watches including the one I posted earlier in the thread which I now have. Any knocks on this brand that I should know about? They seem to make a very quality watch for the price range.

Dressier than normal clothes, less dressy than formal attire. I thought that was pretty obvious.

any suggestion for a simple black watch, non-metal band, none of those chronograph functions, preferably no digits, no dates, just black background, maybe something like this:

jazzmaster viewmatic 40

I guess around $500

Thinking of rubber strapped watches, I kind of find it odd no one has mentioned (that I remember) Chopard Mile Miglias, as these are either really popular among young professional types, or widespread knockoffs, cuz I see guys wearing them all the time it seems.

Can you give a quick summary of how you use the watch and the benefits it gives you? I may be interested in something like this but I have no idea about performance-type watches at all. thanks

Not the former. =\

By the way you can get the Hublot in a 42mm size so if you're worried about it being too big that's definitely an option for you.

Just happened to be watching a TIVOed HSP, and Sammy Farha certainly makes his Hublot work well with a sports jacket, and it is one of the blingy-er ones.

I suppose it is all personal preference, but it can be done!
