I want the onion crown on my Debaufre (same as Steinhart). I wonder if it's an easy swap??

Finally got my strap for my Panerai Homage. Despite having to shave the leather to make it fit, I'm pleased with how it turned out. It was a total custom job from a man out of Croatia. He goes the by the name Diaboliq Straps across several watch forums. His photobucket showcase can be found here with a bunch of nice straps.

The watch itself is MM95 from Jackson Tse. I had it returned to Hong Kong because the movement (Asian 6497) was screwed. I would wind the watch, and the winding spring would "snap" and the crown would spin freely. Some weird intermittent ****.

Watch landed in today via Hong Kong Air. Put the strap on, and this is how it looks.

Overall pleased minus the watch hassle. Not bad for an $85 watch and a $50 strap.

i heard any ok watchmaker should be able to do it. the eta/seagull is a commonly used movement and not that complicated. again, that's what i've read, no 1st hand experience.

Could somebody tell me which of these watches is the highest quality? Maybe explain the differences between them to me that I can't see visually? Or suggest another watch similar in style in my price range?
BTW, the SCVS013 has apparently been discontinued.

so much hate for the pannys now, i guess cuz every tom dick and harry has an 80$ replica. when i bought my pam001 it was obscure and impossible to find (took a 2 hr train from rome to florence just to buy it), and i still think its a beautiful watch.

Oh I hear you.. I got mine in 2004 which I still consider late to the party.. I barely wear it and I've thought about selling it multiple times but I can't seem to let it go..

I have an $80 version. F both of you. The fact is, a watch that is cool is still undeniably cool regardless of how many people have them, fake or real.

You've made that abundantly clear in this thread, yes, I even know the model number now!

If you're going to be buying reps you should probably be comfortable enough with it that you don't have to lash out when people inevitably disagree on the idea of them, it's gonna happen.

Cool article. I like those fliegers a lot. They are also quite affordable for what seems like cool/classic watches for a noob like myself.

i don't really care if people wear replicas/homage/etc whatever you want to call it. their money, their choice. if they're excited about it good for them. i only have a problem if they try to pass it on as the real deal...some watch noob looking at it not realizing the fake might think that much $$$ for the (poor) craftsmanship and that might turn them off to the real deal.

i don't think people wearing replicas cheapen the actual brand any. if you "hate" it because your pam is played out, then that also eliminate other popular brands like rolex, breitling, omega etc who have alot of cool models imo. i was visiting SE asia a few months ago and even saw some fake AP, VCs, Chopard etc...almost bought a 50mm blinged out watch for fun but i was afraid it'd break within weeks (-EV for the $17 it cost).

Panny is a little different. A huge part of their marketing strategy is producing limited numbers of watches and selling the idea that their product is rare and special, that they were all collectors items that would skyrocket in value.

Their whole company (marketing) image is that of rarity and exclusivity, can't think of any other company that stamps their name onto ETA ebauches that took this approach. Bootlegging effects them and their customers more than it does other companies with products in that price range imo.

Sucks for them the damn things are so easy to make.

of all the brands i own it's the only one that's made a drastic change in the period i've owned the watch. (do you see how many new models and LEs they pump out every year now?).

as well - after the panerai i consciously made an effort to only buy watches with in-house movements. although it's on the bottom of my list i have trouble letting it go since every time i strap it on it still kinda smiles at me.. that and i have 20 different straps for it. lol
