Thanks for the advice Ray. No, Mack, no bill. I just happened to be on the website looking for 2023 info, and noticed the claim was Denied. Saw the weird "billed amount = plan discount" numbers when looking at the details.

Some time after writing the above, the CSR finally got back to me, she said she saw the pre-approval/authorization, and would resubmit the claim for processing. It should take 30-45 (!) days.

I don't understand transactional systems that can't be real-time, or at least near-real-time. Tons of ways to design this such that claims are processed by a centralized bit of software, so reprocessing cnan be given priority. Of course, I don't understand their business, maybe processing older claims isn't such a big deal.

I then called the provider's billing person to give them a heads-up. She made a note that the claim's being reprocessed, and laughed it off. This kind of stuff happens all the time, it eventually gets straightened out.

My experience working with not-competent developers tells me these are things where they manually change the data, rather than investigating how the claim got in this state and fixing the actual problem. I see a work ticket being generated right now..."for golddog's claim #abc, please set the discount number to $X, the plan paid to $y, and patient payable to #Z, and make the status processed.'

I had a good friend. He was an elected official on a city council and very sociable. He owned a few different homes. He was gregarious and polite; he was pro trump and a hunter; he'd usually take a vacation out west to elk hunt. His wife was hispanic and they had several children together. They lived on a hobby farm not far from kansas city, and had some local prestige, we knew each other for about 15 years and he gave me lots of advice. He owned a lot of guns and a few old classic cars. Last night he hung himself.

I feel devastated and haunted.

I am also perplexed. He seemed like the type, at least to me who was a bit too tough to off himself. I always pictured him dying in quiet dignity in his 90's. He was one of my links to a more olden days kansas.
Also, limited in scope but he mostly seemed like someone who "had it all" in a way.

I wish we knew what went on in the minds of people who commit suicide. We don't, do we?

I have a friend who worked for a suicide hot line, and the people that called were looking for a way out of what seemed like a hopeless situation. Making that call indicated they wanted to live.

I'm sure there are experts who know much about this. I'm certainly not one of them.

when someone wants to go its their decision to make. make it easy for them but maybe give a few days for them to reconsider without a bunch of pressure.

Depression and self loathing try to convince you that you have no choice but to be miserable. Sometimes it convinces people that suicide is the solution, or the end of the pain. Its not a decision one typically makes quickly in my experience, as I dealt with(beat, for now) lots of my own suicidal thoughts and urges between 15 and 35. So I figure there are other people in the thick of dark times, and lots of them beat their demons every day, living long lives and eventually dying naturally. Unfortunately we dont all beat our demons.

This email from US Bank struck me as funny.

Of course, there's more below. Just happened that my window sizing cut it off just right.

in other news, ive been tapping my creative side, and you guys are the most artsy fartsy group around that im familiar with. so i choose to share with you. bought a 12x12 canvas at the local art bar and came up with this creation with the help of wine, olives, meat, cheese, and crackers.

im happy with it, if i did it again i would go for something more geometrically striking and or lacey for the curtain.

took this pic of boston on the way to thanksgiving dinner 2021 from the blue hills then gave it black and white effect:

and for the animal lovers:

like a ****ing boss. full sub roll. nice score and perfect tip toe form on the chain link.

As I'm retired, but not at the point of Medicare, I go through the state's exchange to get health insurance.

JFC. What a goat****. I can't believe they don't fire these idiots.

First, my password from last year expired. Putting a year expiration on a site that is only used once/year is maybe not the best decision, but maybe not the worst, either. I guess that passes for security.

So I use the 'forgot password' link. "we'll email you a link". Wait. Wait. Wait. Finally call the 800 number, and wait on hold for > 30 minutes. When I get to someone, she says, "Oh, we don't have an email for you."

How is that not the first thing the "forgot password" function checks for, and give the user a different response in the absence of email>

OK, she could update my account, generate the email. Off we go.

Trying to actually make sense of their website is difficult, so I got the same broker who helped me out last year on the case. After a few attempts with his expertise (system crashed on him a couple times), I'm supposedly registered.

Except, I've gotten no confirmation. Log in to the state's site, it's still giving me a "43 days to register" message. Down the page a bit, there's a table to summarize your coverage. Above this table is a dropdown, where you can pick the year to see the summary for, defaulted to 2022.

Changing the year to 2023 (of course) refreshes the page with the 2022 view again. So, I can't verify my coverage went through and is applied properly.

****ing incompetent buffoons.

A+ rant. That kinda stuff drives me insane.

I once wanted to do a local access tv show to just have people describe such incompetence that they've encountered.

virtually all govt programs run by those on the payroll are a cluster puck.

except for the motor vehicle division in kalispell mt. they are perfect for some reason i cant determine as of yet.

Some time after posting the above, I got through the queue. (No, of course there's no "leave your number and we'll call you back" function).

Anyway, this CSR looked around and said my application had been cancelled. WTF? She couldn't tell why.

Another phone meeting with the broker this afternoon, hope we can get this straightened out.

If somebody bids you "Happy holidays!", does it mean they're:

(a) Jewish?
(b) American?
(c) Unwilling to risk offending anyone?

Maybe all of the above.

This may belong in TV or Movies, but also apt here. Friend was here on Monday, and we watched A Ghost Story. Then she wanted to watch an episode of Goop on Netflix. We watched some weird **** about a guy convincing a bunch of Goop employees to do yoga or something in the snow and swim in freezing water.

I immediately turned of the TV when the next episode had the tag line From Vulvas to Vulnerability.

That Paltrow woman may be batshit crazy.

Oh, and going to a wedding tonight. Pouring rain and 30-40 mph winds. Such fun.

let us all hope joy never becomes the sole possession of any specific religion, location, donation, or belief
