National Security, massively open-ended essays based in wide-ranging abstract concepts using practical examples (of which I have ~none prepared). Tomorrow at 1:30pm I'm free.

I have 3 take home exams left. I still care a lot actually. Not sure why.

But then again I also made this post so maybe it's not surprising

Sure I understand 20 years from now no one will care, and maybe even 5 years from now depending what you are doing. But there are many jobs where your grades will matter. Seems dumb to punt an entire year when law school isn't that hard to begin with.
Consistent with this, it's not like I worked my ass off this semester. Far from it. But I definitely did not just mail it in. I still want to get good grades. But I had two days off per week, did nothing on the weekends, and just spent a a week or two studying/outlining at the end. Doesn't seem too bad to me.

i'm done with finals for good but have 2 essays left one of which will prob be like 30 pages (prosecution memo for a complicated federal offense)

feels bad man

i still have not signed up for a bar review course. time to find out if my strategy of negotiating last minute will work. i think at this point i'm honestly considering just buying the books. my state has such a high passage rate that i just feel like it is scammish. i'll prob go themis unless barbri comes down to like 1200. i know that is dumb bla bla bla but whatever. we will see

I bought two year old barbri books on ebay for $56. Maybe also get baroutlines.com or something real cheap and Kaplan MBE question bank + audio lectures for $299

Any reviews on Themis? Took a look at their online interface and it looks pretty good. Most people I talk to indicate that all the major online prep courses are effectively the same.

if i could do it all over again, i'd probably do themis. it's a little more bare bones than barbri (but seems to be effectively the same as kaplan) but should still get you there, and it's far cheaper. i have a lot of negative things to say about kaplan (identified a few "sample answers" for essays that misstated rules of law, as well as some other issues), for what that's worth. all of my friends that did themis passed

i also highly recommend the iphone app with outlines of the MBE topics (if you're willing to spend $60) to use on the go

Not really so bad though. 2 of them are kind of a joke. Not in that I'll get As or anything but they don't require much preparation or studying to not fail. One is much more like a legit exam (copyright law).

And the in class one I took on Tuesday. So it's really not bad at all.

As for bar stuff, I ended up going with Barbri. I've heard it's not actually great for MBE which is weird since the MC questions is like the entire test in MBE states, but in NY they just switched over so they probably haven't fully adjusted yet. In any event I was afraid of taking the road less traveled. No one ever says "I failed bc I took Barbri." If anything it's I took Barbri and passed but if I could do it again I think Themis would have been fine.

For me it wasn't a big deal though because my firm is paying for it anyway. They'll also pay for a secondary review course, so trying to figure out which one of those is the best--Kaplan, PMBR, Adaptibar. I've actually heard pretty good things about all 3, but leaning adaptibar.

No. I turned down an offer hoping to get consulting but I failed so I don't have anything lined up for summer other than... poker.

So I guess yes if I still could get it.

Why go to law school if you wanted to consult?

Management and strategy. I basically need a job that lets me travel and play with Excel/PowerPoint regularly while working with clients.

The correlation btwn law and poker must be pretty high. Maybe it's just because the barriers to entry in both are conducive to lazy people, but there just seems to be a **** ton of lawyers turned poker players and poker players turned lawyers and lawyers who just play poker when they can.

I used Themis. Completed 86% of the course and passed the bar by 50+ points. I highly recommend Themis

A good friend of mine essentially did this. He pirated the books for barbri from piratebay and then just studied on his own. Spent 0$ on prep and passed the NY bar w/room to spare.

He dedicated himself to 9 hours/day, 6 days/week though. He's just the cheapest SOB, so he refused to shell out cash for the review.

I think in the end, as long as you put in the time, it doesn't matter which course you take. If you grind out your hours, you'll be fine.

Small claims question for you guys. I'm suing a company that provided me with warehousing & shipping services for my business. I think I'm supposed to sue in Utah but I want to know if I can get away with suing in Georgia (since I live near Georgia).

The initial contract I signed with them says:
Governing Law: Jurisdiction: This Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Utah without regard to conflicts-of-laws principles that would require the application of any other law. Each of the Parties hereto irrevocably submits to the jurisdiction of each federal or state court located in Salt Lake County, Utah and waives any objection it may now or hereafter have to venue or to convenience of forum.

And at the end of the contract it has a place for them and me to sign, and for them it says:
COMPANYNAME
COMPANYNAME, LLC,
a utah limited liability company

The initial contract is important because, according to it, they broke several parts of it and owe me money.

They have one Utah warehouse and one Georgia warehouse. I only used the Georgia warehouse. I never stored any goods in the Utah warehouse. Every time my credit card was billed by the company the email receipt said COMPANYNAME Atlanta LLC.

They have an active Georgia LLC named COMPANYNAME Atlanta, LLC.
They have an active Utah LLC named COMPANYNAME, LLC.

There's a site called avvo.com you could try searching for Utah or GA attorneys.
