soooo what happened and what kind of surgery obviously?

Also...settled my biggest case ever today. I technically had one bigger, but all I did was write a letter, so it doesn't really count. If I were the defense lawyer on this case, I wouldn't have offered hardly anything. Mediator was a retired judge and said "I have no idea how you got them to offer that" and I said "me neither!" Although I respect the defense lawyer, I'm kind of thinking that he didn't know the law on this particular case.

tore some ligaments in my leg -- just quick arthroscopy surgery should suffice.. not to worried about that just more of the recovery requirements. I cant really walk so i def need to get it done and hurts like hell

you really dont want to be in pain all semester long... i'd trade a week of being out and some recovery for being in no pain by the end of the semester. i watched my 1L year roommate struggle through going to law school in incredible pain with an undiagnosed leg condition (later turned out he had cancer all over his body... thankfully 6 months of chemo later he was in remission) and going to class every day was horrible and he could never concentrate on his work.

Isn't it pretty standard to do all of your reading hopped up on pain killers anyway?

This seems like a pretty easy call - get the surgery. If you are worried about missing stuff, email your professors beforehand to give them a head's up and then email/visit them afterward to find out what you need to do to get up to speed. This is what they have office hours for.

My second son was born with 3 weeks to go in the Fall 2008 semester. I emailed my profs and told them I wouldn't be seeing them until finals and they were all like "sounds good - just let me know if you have any questions about the material/final"

This. I got some pain 'down there' in Fall 2L finals week and tried my first and only vicodin. The world got bright whereas I was very dim. Get sick during the semester

watching my roommate have to choose between painkillers (which he HATED taking) and doing his reading for class was pretty brutal. i used to have to berate him to get him to take them while he'd be sitting there practically in tears from the pain trying to outline contracts. he obv hadn't been formally diagnosed yet.

get the pain taken care of ASAP.

Is it standard for law schools to have an A+= a 4.01 gpa?

At my school an A+ was worth 4.0. A professor could only give one out per class, and some would use that in lieu of filling out the form for a Certificate of Achievement.

At my school its a 4.33 and a professor can only give 1 per class or the top 3%, whichever is lower. This is a recent rule, and professors used to give them out like candy in some cases, before I started at school. Kind of funny to see those grade distributions.

so what's an A worth?

If A+'s are solely cosmetic that's pretty weak

they are both = 4.0 so yeah purely cosmetic.

i know the ppl with A+s get the CALI awards too although i won of those and only got an A (but this was 1L year and im not sure if they were giving out A+s back then).

Yeah, just got grades back from my first semester. I have no idea what is going on at my school. A+ is 4.01, A is 4.0... Doesn't seem to say anywhere that professors actually have to give any A+ grades though.

Bar Loans.

I am a second semester 3L at a TTT WA school who has not thought about the bar at all.

For people that have just taken the bar, or are about to, are they pretty standard? According to my school, they are only done through non-governmental lenders . . . is that standard as well?

At my school it was common to give the certificate w/o the A+. I would prefer to have the certificate and think it is poor form for professors to give the A+ without filling in what I am sure is a quick form and submitting it to the registrar (a Certificate of Achievement is noted on the transcript). Given my school's crappy reputation, where only the very very top have jobs in hand at graduation, you would think that professors would be sensitive to the need to bolster their students' transcripts in any way possible.

Would you put Cali awards on your resume? How about the subject the awards were for?

/thinly veiled brag

I put mine on, and I have it in my mind that it pretty much successfully convinced my current employer that my mediocre grades were really good or something. My resume mentioned that I booked torts and got an A in contracts, and in the interview the HR guy said, "So, it sure looks like 1L went well for you!" I thought "WTF?" but obviously instantly agreed that it did go really well.
