Connors played hoops at UCLA for Maddon in the late 40s. During the 70s he could be seen on TV, sweating the games courtside.

And yet Sheldon Adleson still breathes.

RIP John Hurt.

I do t think I've ever laughed more in a movie then at his scene in Spaceballs.

RIP John Hurt

Winston from 1984 and The Chancellor in V for Vendetta

Wherever he is, if anywhere, I hope it's not a dystopia.

I first noticed him as the junkie in Midnight Express. Seems like he played a lot of gay roles over the years.

John Hurt was an unusual actor, instantly recognisable, yet never typecast.

Shame. Great as Caligula, Quentin Crisp, Kane, John Merrick, Winston Smith, Aragorn, Hazel, Adam Sutler, and The War Doctor.

To name a few.

Hurt's portrayal of Winston Smith came so close to my imagination of how Smith would look that it was scary. Sad to see him go.

Hurt was a bright spot in From The Hip. He was also suitably weasly in King Ralph.

Perry Mason, RIP Barbara ... I still watch the show late night occasionally and I just watched an episode the other night. I have always enjoyed black and whites and our BC boy Raymond Burr.

As an aside, I find it weird that all of the Hogan's Heroes cast is dead and most of the Mary Tyler Moore cast is still alive.

The early B&W Perry Masons are good attempts at TV noir. I still watch them whenever I can.

Delia Street always gave me a boner. Perhaps her name had something to do with it. Also that cute little blonde that was on F-Troop.

Perry Mason is classic TV at its best, hard to beat from any angle.

Brunhilde Pomsel, Goebbels secretary, dead at 106, on January 27, 2017, at Munich, Germany, longer than she deserved, but an obituary worth reading . . . and thinking about.

How about his cameo in Spaceballs that was a parody of that scene?

A couple of typos/misspellings from your post: That would be John Wetton and Uriah Heep. Coincidentally, Uriah Heep was the very first band I saw in concert, albeit it was before Wetton's short stint with the band from 1975-1976.

Emmanuelle Riva, the star of Hiroshima Mon Amour and Amour, died Friday, January 27, 2017, in Paris, France. The first time I saw Hiroshima Mon Amour, I knew I had seen something very special, but I wasn't sure what; I was also struck by Riva's acting and her ability to express without words.

I mentioned a while back that I knew Henry Heimlich, M.D. and had eaten lunch with him and his son at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Another gentleman I met there was Paul Ornstein, M.D., a celebrity in his own profession, but little known outside it. Dr. Ornstein died January 19, 2017, at age 92. He was a remarkable person with an aura of authenticity I've seen in few other people.

He rated an obit in the New York Times:
