Fisher surprised me, as I thought she was doing better. I think many of the medical terms are confusing as far as status goes. My understanding was she was "stable", and then she dies the next day. Sigh.
About 20 years ago, I was working the Emmys in the green room, stage managing the celebs who were appearing and presenting. Debbie Reynolds was one of them. She was sitting by herself on a couch and called me over, having me sit next to her.
She asked me my name and what I did and what I wanted to do, and when I told her I was a writer, she patted me on the knee and said, "My daughter is a writer - you should meet her, I bet you'd get along."
I thought, well, yeah, Ms. Reynolds, I'll meet Carrie Fischer if you set it up!
It didn't happen, but Debbie Reynolds was a kind, friendly woman, and she was genuinely interested in a nobody stage manager. She made my day.
Such a sad time for the family. Debbie and Carrrie, two greats in their own right!
All the interactions I've seen of them show that they had a great love for each other.

RIP
I love memories like this. When I deal with difficult people or difficult situations, I try to recall them and use them. A simple act of kindness can go a long way.
Makes you appreciate what you have. That being said, maybe there is some solace in the fact that Carrie's mother didn't have to live heart-broken for very long.
