Pearl Washington died, exciting point guard for Syracuse during the 80's. Integral part of that 80s Big East scene along with Ewing and Chris Mullin, they'd have at least 3 epic regular season games every week. Washington had a special flair and much beloved. Oddly he also had a pot belly and looked like he was 39 when he was 20. I remember him being a favorite of the great Dick McGuire's.

He was only 51, brain tumor.

Wow.

I had just moved to DC in 1985 so I well remember the Big East scene back then, and especially the epic Syracuse-Georgetown rivalry. Coincidentally, I just recently watched a rerun on one of the ESPN networks of the 30 for 30 episode titled Requiem for the Big East which had a big segment focusing on Pearl.

Unbelievable that he's gone so young.

Joan Laurer aka Chyna passed away at 45 in her apartment in the LA suburb of Redondo Beach. The former WWE Diva and sometime actress was battling drug and alcohol-related issues as well as a mental illness.

The artist known as Prince has died ... TMZ has learned. He was 57.

Prince's body was discovered at his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota early Thursday morning.

Multiple sources connected to the singer confirmed he had passed.

Michelle McNamara, a crime writer, best known for the website True Crime Diary, dies in her sleep at age 46 on April 22, 2016.

Her family reports that her death is a complete shock. It's been a very bad week for young people.

I was saying it tongue-in-cheek. With all the deaths of musicians I was hoping no other icons die soon.

Michael Jackson dieing annoyed me. Prince more. If Axel Rose or James Hetfield or Chuck D dies this week I'll be pissed.

I ended up in ICU and almost died a couple of times when in my early 50s; it's what led me to decide to retire six years ago at the age of 54 and enjoy life because you never know how long you have.

As a side note: my last day at work was 3/3/10. I walked out the front door of my office building in D.C. at 1:00pm, went straight to BWI Airport, and was on a 4:30pm flight to my new home in Las Vegas. I wasn't going to waste even a minute of my retirement life.

I'm not sure how much of the rumors are true, but they are saying that Prince was doing a lot of Percocet and fentanyl for years. Sadly, that was my hunch. I really hate these prescription opiates.
