****ing hell, now I'm angry. Bowie was the greatest, most original rock star who ever lived. Ziggy Stardust and Young Americans are two of my all-time favorite albums - I picked Young Americans in our album draft!

I'm really sad. This one makes me choke up.

Perhaps a few of you remember David's performance in the 1983 release of " Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence. " Mr. Bowies' character ( Major Jack Celliers ) was riveting throughout. Definitely not your everyday WWll POW movie.

I saw that in the theater when it first came out. Fantastic performance. My favorite of his is probably from The Hunger...it's so desperate and lovelorn.

Bowie is one of those guys who just lived life on his own terms; did things his own way and **** what you think. I've been guilty of overlooking his music for far too long, time to get more into it. RIP, Starman.

I first heard of Bowie in the 80's when he was definitely not cool. That period when guys like Rod Stewart and the Rolling Stones were putting out disco. Their older stuff was played on rock stations, and the disco stuff was shat upon.

Then somehow I got a recommendation to watch an indie film that Bowie was in / scored.

Bit of an eye opener for a sheltered Midwestern kid.
I guess that's probably where I first heard "Heroes", which I only rediscovered in "Perks of a Wallflower". Excellent movie, but the first thing I did after seeing it was to find that song. Been in heavy rotation since.
