Terrence Davies, lyrical English film director of such classics like Distant Voices Still Lives and The Long Day Closes.

Perhaps the greatest director most never heard of.

What a loss. The Long Day Closes is such a great film. That overhead shot that fades from the movie theater, the schoolroom, and the church, set to the song "Tammy," is one I always show my class, and it's available now on Criterion as is an early trilogy.

I also recommend Of Time and The City in addition to Distant Voices, Still Lives.

Walt Garrison died, very good rb for the 70s Cowboys. #32, pre Tony Dorsett mostly. I mainly remember him for a series of Skoal-Copenhagen tobacco ads that played up his rodeo roots. "Just a pinch between your cheek and gum, feels real relaxin' in there. "

Walt was fun to watch. He played with Duane Thomas and Calvin Hill and still got plenty of carries. He was really deft and finding the seam to get through the line, but didn't have Thomas's downfield skills.

I met Walt Garrison when I was about 9 years old at some sports convention my Dad took me too...he was signing stuff at a table. I was a Dolphins fan at that time, and asked him if he had played in SB VI against Miami, and he said, "Yep. Beat'em, too."

Burt played Curly in Chinatown, the guy at the start of the movie who gets shown the pictures of his wife, and then gets asked by Jake to take Faye and daughter out of town on his boat.

To me, this role really stands out and sets up the entire movie.

amazing movie,, i watch it sometimes when i want to remember a bit about my childhood.

It's a great film with an awesome set design and cast. It's nearly four hours long though so you might want to have a free schedule for when you watch
