Pat Robertson at 93. Perhaps trained an army of televangelists how to get rich and avoid taxes.

I want to believe in Hell just so Pat can go there and burn in eternity.

Lol at all this hate. Robertson was not my favorite tv preacher but not so bad as tv preachers go. So yes, I'm sticking up for my fellow Christian here and not judging him much.

Really? He wasn't afraid of judging others.

Hate begets hate.

Among many other bizarre things, Robertson stated that the acceptance of homosexuality could result in hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, terrorist bombings and "possibly a meteor".

Pat Robertson was a an evil mothereffer, and I'm GLAD he died. I only hope that it was painful.

Pat Robertson, the airport I flew to the most out of all airports is the norfolk airport. I saw pat robertson's face many times at that airport. He was an enthusiastic christian, or so I've heard.

I have never heard him referred to as a Christian before, so there is that.

As is often the case, Red's analysis is spot-on.

In some ways, I would feel better about this world if Pat Robertson and his like were mere hucksters, but it's even worse to think many evangelicals actually believe the venom they spew.

I can still remember a Newsweek cover on hot young actors back in the early 80s. It was Treat Williams, Elizabeth McGovern, and a hard-to-recognize William Hurt. Prince of the City was supposed to make Treat Williams a star but it didn't quite.

Which reminds me, how sexy was young Elizabeth McGovern.

Cormac McCarthy. He was working on the screenplay for Blood Meridian, maybe the American novel.

The hero is named John Cole after all. I haven't read that but will soon.

Glenda Jackson. Won two Oscars, didn't turn up for them, and became an MP.

Glenda Jackson was a fine actor. She was great playing Stevie Smith, the poet and alongside Walter Matthau.

I met him in a pool hall in Austin 25 years ago. I was playing some weird game with a friend for maybe $1 a set. We were yelling and ****-talking each other, and he came over to see what we were up to. He sat down and had some of our beer and watched. Said his name was Charlie. Regular guy, and funny, who could hold his own in the scene. After he left, another friend told me who he was. I hadn't heard of him. So I went home and read Blood Meridian.

There is more to this. The guy I was playing with was what we used to call a rounder. He was in his 50s and probably had never had a job in his life, unless he dealt poker or craps in underground games. He was known to be a good pool player with a national reputation. When he found out who the guy was, he became visibly emotional. He had read all of McCarthy and loved Blood Meridian. He kept saying, "I knew he was somebody. He had an aura!"

So I go home and tell my wife the story, and she says, "You idiot, don't you know that's my favorite author?" The she grabs a bunch of books off the shelf, hands them to me and says, "Read Blood Meridian first."

Phat,

This is amazing. And I think you and Ray Zee have run into your share of characters in your time.
