Dick Fosbury. Talk about a paradigm shift.

Fosbury is/was an oregon native. born in portland, grew up down south in medford. 'invented' the flop in high school and finished second in the state meet his senior year.

a fun bit of info that's likely only interesting to oregonians with collegiate rooting interests:
instead of going to uoregon, the ncaa track & field national champions that season coached by nike co-founder bill bowerman, Fosbury elected to attend engineering school at oregon state in corvallis.

won nationals a couple of times, did some olympic things, then relocated to ketcham, idaho to start a civil engineering firm and join the growing list of famous people with a sun valley address.

He popularized and perfected it, but he didn't invent it.

So, they left out several people from the memoriam:

Paul Sorvino, Why?
Robert Blake, ok I get it, even though he was found not guilty.
Anne Heche, ok I get it, she was hammered and plowed into a house with her car.

Tom Sizemore, why? because he did a lot of drugs? They didn't leave out Philip Seymour Hoffman and Michael Kenneth Williams previously.

Also, that was the worst presentation ever, with 2 people shown at once and one blurred out and then switched.

I know I'm getting old when guys like Joe Pepitone die. It seems like yesterday that I watched him play for the hated Yankees.

RIP Joe Pepitone
He was quite the character. Bouton had a couple of good stories about him in Ball Four and I read his autobiography (back in the 80's) called Joe, You Coulda Made Us Proud. He was touted to be the next Yankee left handed hitting superstar but it never really worked out and he ended up only being good(ish). The pressures of that combined with his crazy lifestyle were the likely reason he never broke through to super stardom.

The only thing I know about Joe Pepitone is them mentioning it was Joe Pepitone day on Seinfeld one time.

I figured he died long ago.

His drumming on Clapton's early album was great, and he wrote (and played) the piano coda to Layla

On the other hand, he was a convicted murderer.
