We all remember the cashier asking
US what the price was on some peculiar item that no one else ever bought. I remember being the kid given the job to remember that price. Then the cashier had to either trust the kid, or call for a price check.
Then the scanners came. We had to remember all the prices and take our best guess at the product that invoked the dreaded, inevitable, beep of ignorance.
