Is she the last of the Mary Tyler Moore show?

I'm feeling old. Such a great show.

I generally don't remember or research stuff like that so thanks. That's why I asked.

I do remember how much I enjoyed the show.

There's also John Amos, who had a recurring role during the first four seasons playing Gordy the weatherman. He also came back for one episode in the final season as the guest star (after he became a star in his own right for Good Times). He's currently 79.

I always enjoyed his small, but memorable appearances.

They should still show Mary Tyler Moore reruns, hell I'd gladly watch that. Put that with The Bob Newhart Show back-to-back again, like Saturday night in the 70s. Good times! (pretty good show itself)

John Amos was a good actor, always made things better and drew your attention. Like Ricardo Montalban he mighta been a huge star if he'd been born in a different age.

MTM + Bob Newhart was a staple for me in the 80s on cable on WGN iirc.

Good Times! was my absolute favorite show when in it's first run, but I was a little kid. In reruns...it was ok, but too melodramatic. I liked John Amos too. Looking at IMDB he had recurring roles on 15 different TV series.

Pal Benko died last week, chess grandmaster originally from Hungary, world-class player. Also a fixture of the 60s American chess scene and friend/opponent of Bobby Fischer. Later he was a mentor to the Polgar ladies. He was a cool old dude when I saw him doing analysis at a chess tournament in Philadelphia in 1995. Still had a thick head of mostly black hair! And still with a sharp playful active mind. Also very gracious in manner to us chess unwashed masses as he'd analyze our games.

kioshk,

As an aside, I was in Philadelphia for a conference a number of years ago and stopped into the library with a couple of colleagues. There was a long line of about three hundred people, all carrying books. A guy was there signing who no one except me recognized. Gary Kasparov. I couldn't believe they didn't know who he was.

There's an election coming up in Russia I hear, maybe Kasparov will end up overthrowing Putin or something! I wouldn't put anything past him, very special person. But I guess Putin may be special in his own way haha.

Carol Lynley, 77.

Lovely 60s and 70s actress, probably most famous for being the sexy singer who falls for Red Buttons in The Poseidon Adventure.

RIP T Boone

As an energy trader myself I followed him a lot and he was a fascinating guy always worth watching and listening to. He was quite the philanthropist as well. I'd much rather someone smart like him divvy up a billion dollars to great causes rather than the government stealing it from him and wasting it.

Is hiking surprisingly dangerous? A dentist that pulled one of my teeth was killed by a falling boulder while hiking a few years ago.
