Buckner came to my little league end of the season dinner when he was on the Cubs. He seemed like a genuinely nice guy.

It was the first time I met a pro athlete, and I always associated that one line from John Fogerty's Centerfield with him when I saw him - brown eyed handsome man

I liked Leon Redbone, what I knew of him. He was one of these eccentric artiste types but also very accessible cause his songs sounded cool, the way his voice was all growly and low.

There was that great line in that movie where Alan Dershowitz (played by Ron Silver) tells von Bulow he's a very strange guy, and Jeremy Irons as von Bulow kills it with "You have no idea." Something like that

There used to be a great documentary about Roky Erickson on Netflix, made a big impression on me back in the early 2010s. He had a few issues iirc, but don't we all.

What sad news to wake up to.

"Your Gonna Miss Me" was the documentary. In the summer of 2005 I was in Vegas during the Series. I was pokering in the Rio and reading the local paper when I saw that it was playing in a theater way north of town. There was only one showing and it started in an hour. I rush out of the Rio, grab a cab, pay a fortune for the ride, and get there with 5 minutes to spare.

I sit down and within 30 seconds realize it's not the doc about Roky, but it's some streamed concert by country singer I've never heard of.

I've yet to see it. RIP Roky.
