Great Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami on July 4th. Re watched his Certified Copy, a great film on marriage and relationships. His Taste of Cherry and Ten are also among my favorites.

I read a very good book about the history of the Sicilian Mafia awhile ago, and The Boss of Bosses figured highly near the end. Now the Boss finally met his own end. I suppose one most say something good about him. So I will. He was very good at what he did for a long time and had been in prison for only a decade. He lived large; he lived mean; he lived like a god. And he did not end badly (Sicilian for ending in the bottom of a river).

You wish you could do so good.

Love that scene and love that movie, forgotten classic! Garry Marshall was awesome, everything he did had a good-spirited vibe about it, even when it bordered on the schlocky. At his best he was hard to beat, The Odd Couple, early Happy Days, The Flamingo Kid. RIP Garry Marshall.
