I saw Roy Clark years ago at a county fair. He was an exceptional musician on a number of stringed instruments including the banjo. Had a few of his vinyl albums, in fact still have some passed down from my father, RIP. Both of them.

The country music oldies station I listen to has a syndicated show on Saturdays called Cowboy Corner, hosted by Red Steagall. Roy Clark was on it a few weeks ago, couldn't have been nicer or more engaging. Him and Red had a lot of shared history, as you might imagine. I remember being impressed by Roy's vitality at his age. And he told that Mickey Mantle story like he always did.

I have a bunch of his novels at home. My wife was a big fan. I liked his Soldier in the Rain.

Just upgraded my Princess Bride blu at the Criterion sale this week and had been enjoying lots of William Goldman in the supplements. Very cool guy and a gut punch to suddenly see the news a day later.

I think Marathon Man wants to be one of my sleeper favorite films of all time.

Great career and many classics. RIP.

Saw Gatemouth playing with Hoyt Axton in a honky took in Durango CO in '70 before Joy To The World and Never Been to Spain were released by 3 Dog Night. It was Clarence's gig but he called Hoyt up to the stage. I still remember a couple of Hoyt's jokes:
"They call me Tex. I'm really from Louisiana but I don't want to be called Louise."
"This is a great club. I've been in places so quiet you could hear the zippers in the men's room."

It was in '70 when I first saw Gatemouth play a country gig in San Antonio. It may have been at Randy's Rodeo, later made famous by the Sex Pistols, but it's been too long ago.

When you are your age Phat most things have "been too long ago". Unfortunately, I'm fast getting there myself.

I saw Hoyt Axton in about the mid-1970's at a small venue - I have forgotten where, but it was somewhere in Oregon. He put on a great show. He was by himself and his band whatever the hell it was; no sissy warm up band either.

Aight this stuff you guys saw is certainly epic for any rock music fan.

I was listening fan of Three Dog Night back in the day so why the Three Dog Night reference?

Hoyt wrote both of those songs, and performed them at that joint in Durango.

Hey Wetdog, I thought that was likely the case and did not google it as I was more hopeful you would get back to me, which you did, so thanks. Great songs!

My old boss when I was in high school raved about Roeg's Walkabout, so I went to see it when I was seventeen. Still watch it every few years. Became a Roeg fan and got to see Performance, Don't Look Now, and The Man Who Fell to Earth in theaters. I even didn't mind Bad Timing that much.
