Veteran character actor Bill Daly, 91.

I Dream Of Jeanie and The Bob Newhart Show would not have been the same without him.

Yep. I also remember Barbara Eden saying when Desi Arnaz was around the set - she had to disappear because he would always be chasing her.

Anybody mention Burt Reynolds yet? I never could understand his draw at the box office. Smokey & the Bandit, Cannonball Run I think one was called. The prison-football movie. I never thought he could act - he just was one of the guys who are basically the same character.

Thought his best role was in Deliverance. I heard him say the woman he cared about the most and lost was Sally Field. I saw her comment about his passing on the Evening News & it was like....good bye buddy. I think it was telling that the word love wasn't in there.

I would guess when he did the Smokey movies with her he was at his box office high & had a relationship with her - but was probably messing around with a lot of others - & I'm sure it would be tempting to do.

But I think when he got older he may have wished he would have tried to have a monogamous relationship with her. But of course I really have no idea what most actors are like when they are not "on".

Sort of off topic but interesting nonetheless: Jeanie was, I think, my first masturbation fantasy.

Billy Daly was the quintessential foil actor that made everything and everyone better. I assure all that he is, right now, having some salty banter with St. Peter, trying to bluff his way passed the Pearly Gates.

... in a befuddling, funny manner.

He always played his characters as no one else could and always made be laugh.

I also loved Burt Reynolds. Partly for bringing back the great Jackie Gleason.

RIP to him and Bill Daly.

I still remember Alan Abel's clothe-the-animals project. He managed to get it on a game show of some sort... What's My Line? To Tell the Truth? ... and I thought it was too good to be true. I never see a draft horse go by with a poop catcher without thinking of his horse diapers.

I was just a kid, but I remember the panelists looking at each other straight faced and trying to find something polite to say.

RIP Chas out of Chas and Dave. Played with Jerry Lee Lewis and them all. From the same place as me, HH and John Keats. Pymmes Park is at the centre of my consciousness.

I remember going to IMDB at the time to look up "Scott Wilson" to see if he had done anything else noteworthy, and being blown away to learn that he was the same actor who played Harvey in In The Heat of the Night, as well as murderer Richard Hickock in In Cold Blood.

What an incredible start to a career, as well as a memorable end, as I also learned today that he had recently completed filming for an upcoming episode of The Walking Dead that will air during the second half of this 9th season of the series.

A ton of ornamental bricks killed Robert Venturi, architect, dead at 93.

robert-venturi-dead.l

From above link:

Sept. 19, 2018

Robert Venturi, the influential American architect and theorist whose buildings and best-selling books helped inspire the movement known as postmodernism, in which historic elements enliven contemporary forms, died on Tuesday at his home in Philadelphia. He was 93.

The cause was complications of Alzheimer’s disease, his son, James Venturi, an urban planner, said.

For much of the 20th century, “serious” architects, led by Le Corbusier and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, favored unadorned surfaces and strictly geometric forms. But in his treatise “Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture,” published in 1966, Mr. Venturi argued that ornament, historical allusions and even humor had a place in modern architecture. The book was a retort to Mies’s assertion that “less is more.”

“Less is a bore,” Mr. Venturi wrote.

“I am for richness of meaning rather than clarity of meaning,” he explained. His goal, he said, was to awaken architects “from prim dreams of pure order.”

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

No one cares. Well, John Cole might. I might also - if I knew more about him. Apparently he set other architects screaming down halls and out into the dark void. Bully for him, if so.
