I no longer am a believer in Jazz. IÂ’ve moved on.

I believe in the Mets. They make the most unusual music.

Here's a couple pretty good RI musicians doing "But Not For Me."

The Mets? The New York Mets? Zeno, you have lost your mind. There is nothing there. I've seen the Mets coached by Casey Stengel in the Polo Grounds, and I have given up on them. There is nothing there. Not a team, not a franchise, nothing.

Please, get help.

Envy you seeing a game at the Polo Grounds. I think that center field was 484 feet if I remember correctly from all the baseball books I read as a wee lad.

I'm not sure if this belongs in the jazz or blues thread, but I thought I'd stick it here.

not sure Mose could tell you either.
his musical timeline is a jazz to blues gradient including Stan Getz and John Mayall.

Foley (one word nicknamed after Jack Foley sound effects) played bass like a guitar for the last few years of Miles' life and career.
he got the gig recommended by Marcus Miller.

it's easy for the ears to be confused by the initial haze of late Miles,
but the fun starts once he steps back and everyone else has a chance to share the spotlight

Years ago my old grad school professor introduced me to Art Pepper and said he used to be great but turned to self parody by the end. So early Art Pepper.

apologies for a repeat post
but sometimes you don't feel like mining the search function to crack open a fossil and just want to get to the point
watch this video and be reminded of the power notes have when allowed to spread across the beat of time

I'll probably spend another year on Monk. I'm thinking of going back and just doing 1964 for a few months. This from 1968.

and here i was thinking of spending the rest of my life drawn out over two decades.
there is something about a Monk song that activates a different lobe of the brain.

I haven't even dipped my toe into Monk as a sideman. Also, his album output seems to decline after 1970. I've pretty much gone though all of the Monk albums, but I am feeling like a dilettante. I wish I had taken some jazz appreciation courses in college.

monks early stuff as a sideman is intertwined with the history of bop music
time to teach yourself in your own jazz appreciation class

with Milt Jackson in '48

and Bird and Diz in '50

mid-50s was Miles and Sonny and Gigi Gryce at different times
sometimes together, sometimes separate

later 50s was Clark Terry

and of course this one with Art Blakey
