Just checked out and viewed “On a Summer’s Day” a documentary on the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival. Fabulous, from the great music to the great way it was presented. Highly recommended. Jazz and the people associated with it at their best.

I just put this on my watch list because it has Anita O'Day in it, although I guess she was getting near the end of her career in 1958.

I tend to listen to Anita O'Day and Cal Tjader doing "Thanks for the Memory" whenever I need to lift my mood.

keep a close eye on the way Monk is playing the pianey in the background around the 1:45 mark before he starts dancing

Strange. Is it show biz? Is he trying to attract attention to himself? Is he simply happy?

I like the way it starts out with him framed to the rear on the left side of the shot.

coming in way too hot for my state of mind right now
but i do have to admit, i don't believe i've heard a song from a group with KG as the lead before
i've seen his name on many liner notes over the years but i didn't realize he was doing his own thing
and now here we are
