And, since I was hanging out on youtube, today's Trombone Talk features Treme Prince.

I still can't understand how trombones work in jazz, but I'm getting closer.

Trumpets talk, Trombones can also. Just a bit more subtle. John Cole and I posted some trombone jazz stuff some years ago. There’s a few guys that do it very well.

time to get recalibrated

Monk - Live in Paris 1964

Charlie Rouse (ts)
Thelonious Monk (p)
Edward "Butch" Warren (b)
Ben Riley (d)

Rouse plays notes as if he's running across lily pads while crossing a pond. he barely touches any of them but the footprint is evident.

and if you like Bop, this one with Rouse and Quinichette lives up to its name
should be lots of familiar names in this linup

The Chase is On 1957

Charlie Rouse, Paul Quinichette - tenor saxophone....
Hank Jones (# 2 & 5), Wynton Kelly (# 1, 3, 4 & 6-8) - piano....
Freddie Green - guitar (# 2 & 5)....
Wendell Marshall - bass....
Ed Thigpen - drums

Not only a tuba solo, but the banjo gets to play a few bars and not only that but we have an appearance of the thread's favorite yellow dog (R.I.P)!

Edit: Dog named Tupelo

This is something that appeared in my youtube feed and really hit the spot. I'm not sure if I've ever heard a Telecaster used in this way.
