I stumbled upon Nu Jazz on YT - I had never heard of it before
this is how Wiki describes it
Nu jazz, also known as jazztronica, is a genre of jazz and electronic music. The term was coined in the late 1990s to refer to music that blends jazz elements with other musical styles, such as funk, soul, electronic music, and free improvisation.
I thought I was going to be anti because it doesn't use real instruments a lot of the time. but it turns out I like it - think it's pretty cool - something that's not new - but new for me

i can't help but watch the yellow dog in Tuba Skinny videos. i just learned he/she is named Tupelo, belonged to the trombone player, liked to eat leftover bacon (who doesn't), and has passed away.
that transition at 1:03 is really pronounced on the studio version, and they do a good job capturing it there live. the blues lick from 2:22 to 2:24 is singularly Joe. that stop and start
the start to his solo here has an almost disorienting affect. something a bit similar to that lick in Surfing. I'm a bit stoned
dat sweep at 1:35, too. the phrase it achieves is cool
love finding musicians I never heard of like Leon Spencer
I know people get pissed with Google who owns YT for various reasons - but I zip my mouth when people criticize them
I've found so much music I love on YT
yeah, that's a fantastic track.
Spencer was also credited as a sideman on albums by Sonny Stitt and Melvin Sparks (who played guitar on that track). combine some wiki and YT searches and see what comes up. i think you'll find many of the players on Louisiana Slim also played on those other albums.
really interesting - he starts if off with the main riff from the rock hit Sunshine of Your Love by Cream and then takes it in a completely different direction

This is great. I've listened to it a couple of times trying to identify all the riffs. Plus, it gives me a chance to post Spanky Wilson for the umpteenth time.
