I remember years back catching some performance on BET Jazz... might've been one of Dizzy's groups, the guitarist was sick, out, fusiony

the guitarist with the big ass beard that was wrecking things is Pete Cosey. not surprising you like him because he was a big influence on Vernon Reid.

Cosey played on the last few Miles studio albums (Get Up With It, Dark Magus, Agharta, Pangaea) as well as pretty much any live concert between 1973-1977.

Cosey also played lead guitar with Muddy Waters in the late 60's on albums like Electric Mudd and songs like this:

the other guitarist is Reggie Lucas, who toured with Miles at pretty much the same time as Cosey.

Lucas' biggest claim to fame is probably being the initial producer of Madonna's first album Madonna and writing her early hit Borderline. Jellybean Benitez remixed almost everything after Madonna let Lucas go, resulting in the music that was released.

not gonna lie...some of these songs get very weird and borderline unlistenable, but others find a really interesting groove.

the way Ray Brown and Ed Thigpen are keeping the rhythm at the beginning by gently tapping their bass and drums is fun to watch. i actually think they may have been subtly correcting overzealous snapping fans who were a bit ahead of the beat.

this trio is incredibly tight. listen to it at least twice.
the unspoken language between Brown & Thigpen is fun to watch....just head nods and looks.

Jazz or Blues or a mix this is surprisingly pretty good stuff from BTO; a band best known for vapid 70's rock.
