Re: Jabonator's Piano Covers

Nothing special about it, I just didn't notice you using it. Could be the audio though. Basically, just try to keep it legato with the help of the pedal, so there aren't any unnecessary pauses.

Re: Jabonator's Piano Covers

I think it's mostly a problem with the recording process. I've recorded some stuff that sounds kinda similar to kelley's video, despite being a pretty heavy sustain pedal user. Just need a better microphone or something

With a different kind of approach, bringing the tempo down, playing it as a lullaby type of a song.

Re: Jabonator's Piano Covers

Awesome, but what's what weird popping sound coming through in the audio? I thought it was bad sound equipment on my laptop so I ran it through my external firewire sound processor and good headphones and get the same issue.

I wouldn't *****, but it sounds like I have a blown speaker when the pops hit and it takes me out of listening.

Re: Jabonator's Piano Covers

I don't know. I guess my recording equipment needs some improving. In the first videos I'm using my standard Panasonic digital camera. Recently I've been using a Sony HD video camera. I'm trying to record the audio with a seperate microphone in the future.

Currently working on November Rain by Guns N Roses. 8 minutes of epicness, I'd say. Just needs a lot of practice with the guitar solos, and trying to make the whole song without messing up.

Re: Jabonator's Piano Covers

That's how I record stuff (well, in theory if I had a camera anyway), camera captures the video and the audio goes directly into the computer, then I merge the two files afterwards. Works very well I think, sound comes out great.

Re: Jabonator's Piano Covers

Here's that November Rain cover I was talking about, finally got the guitar solo down. Still with the same old crappy audio, though. :/

Re: Jabonator's Piano Covers

I think that more distance between the keyboard and the mic would kill the pops. I think pop filters are to prevent exactly that.

If I were recording this I'd get audio directly from the midi/usb/whatever output to the computer, and then not use the audio from the video track at all. I have no idea how to do that on a PC, so it might end up being complicated.

But yeah, you really do a great job of playing.

Re: Jabonator's Piano Covers

Hey Jabonator, nice thread! I especially enjoyed your rendition of Like Spinning Plates! I wish I was as prolific as you...

I thought I'd add my own humble contribution for everyone, a version of the Dirty Projectors "Two Doves" I worked out a couple years ago. I didn't have time to cop the nice string intro, but hopefully you guys like it anyway.

Re: Jabonator's Piano Covers

You can do what Duke describes in something as basic as Windows Movie Maker. I had never used it before and figured it out in less than 5 minutes, it's no problem.

Jabonator, I've been on the fence, but you made me a fan with your cover of U2s Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own.

Kidding about the being on the fence part. Excellent covers. I am browsing your collection right now. OMG is that a Kelly Clarkson cover?!?!

Lol, yeah, I did a Kelly Clarkson cover at some point. Not my favorite artist, but the song translates well to piano.

This time recorded the audio with a mediocre microphone. No pops. Haven't figured out the direct audio yet.

No. The pattern for the song is quite simple, so you can make a version of your own and determine the difficulcy to suit yourself.
