Sorry for taking so long, but finally recorded this. Thanks for introducing me to the song, btw.

I was at a music camp in the States for a week. We had our lessons and some time to practice on our own at Bemidji State University. Got to love those Steinway grand pianos. Have a couple more videos on the way.

Very nice. I have recently discovered a deep attraction to Piano. Stuff like Satie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-Xm7s9eGxU

How difficult is it to play something like the song in the video?

With the sheet music, I reckon I'd learn that in a week.

Snoopy, will check those out.

Jabonator, awesome thread. Are you using sheet music for this or just listening and figuring it out? I'm trying to get back into piano and would like to know the best place to buy sheet music for modern songs (hate playing old boring classical ****) -- anything from rock to hip-hop would be awesome, also old bluesy style classic rock would be cool

For some, I have the sheet music, and for some I figure it out by ear. Not without any help though, I go to ultimate-guitar.com and search the chords for the song, so the melody is pretty easy to find. Here's a couple good sites for free sheet music:

www.my-piano.blogspot.com
www.sheetzbox.com
http://pianotte.szm.com/

Fullontilt87, I'll have to check those songs out, as I really can't play songs I don't know. If I like them/feel that they'd make a good cover, I'll give it a shot.

Always happy to answer any questions and take in requests or suggestions!

Mike, I'll try and remember to check it out later, as I can't at the moment, and I'll try to give you some feedback too.

For piano covers, as in songs played completely on piano, not accompaning your own singing with the piano, I'd say some of the most covered songs would have to be (on YouTube, that is) OneRepublic - Apologize, Vanessa Carlton - A Thousand Miles, Evanescence - My Immortal, Coldplay - The Scientist. Basically, any popular hits will be covered a ton on YouTube, especially, if there's really a piano involved in the original, as in these three, and it's also a big part of the song. Some older popular piano music for coverers would be the hits of Elton John and The Beatles, and probably Desperado by The Eagles, too.

For guitar, covers are usually either challenging solos by electric guitar, or acoustic guitar and singing. For the latter, some popular songs are Wonderwall, Save Tonight, Hallelujah, I'm Yours.

Basically, most songs that are covered by many people have a recognizable riff in it for piano or guitar, and are known by everybody. That makes it easy to get views, as people search for their favorite pop songs on YouTube, and if the original consists of the instrument you play it in, they might be more interested in hearing your take on the song, and they will recognize the tune better.

Very good for someone who's only been playing for a year. You must be musically talented, and you probably have played something else - or so the guitar on the wall would suggest. Also, try using the sustain pedal here and there. It may seem a bit weird and hard in the beginning, but when you learn to use it right, it adds so much more to the music.

Hey thanks man. Yeah I've played guitar and bass for awhile now, but I get bored easily haha, so I picked up the piano to kill some more time here and there. What do you mean re: the sustain pedal? I'm definitely "using" it, but if there is a certain technique or something that would help the music out I'd love to hear about it and learn more! Could just be the bad audio quality masking it all together. Thanks
