Have been playing this one a lot with the band in my music academy. Performed it on monday's concert, and it was awesome. Felt like making a new cover of it.

Awesome thread. Your cover of Paranoid Android is ****ing amazing.

I've been playing seriously for about a year and a half (after dicking around on my father's piano for several years).

I've recorded some covers myself, of Type O Negative and Pendulum to name a couple, though not nearly as impressive as yours.

Also, I've been nominated for Musician of the year by the same site that earlier nominated me for the Musician of the month poll.

This song is an original that the girl sang at her audition for X-Factor UK. Check it out if you haven't seen it. Beautiful song by a 16-year-old girl.

With the Holland Metropole Orchestra

Obviously the piano is a very different instrument, but I wonder if you could do something with this song.

Keep up the great work!

Hmmmm, this reminded me of Mike Keneally's solo piano renditions of some popular Steve Vai songs.

Here's his version of All About Eve

Here's the original

Maybe that can give you some ideas for how to translate the guitar licks in For the Love of God to solo piano?

Thanks for continuing to post, Jab. Love the covers.

Introduced to this band by the 2013 Music Thread in EDF. Really love their stuff.

Felt like going back to my roots, and relearned a classical piece I used to play a few years back.

That was one of the first pieces I learned to play in music school! I remember first looking at the sheet music and shaking my head at the long runs, like from 1:34-1:40, then playing it through and realizing they were repeated notes with the same fingering. For some reason I always had trouble with the dynamics in the last few chords. I couldn't get myself to switch from oh so soft to banging the **** out of the piano every chord.

Not to put yet more on your plate, but perhaps you could also play Erik Satie's Gymnopedie #1 or Gnossienne #1? I love to hear them.

And if you could work a little Chopin, Debussy, and Rachmaninoff into your posts, that'd be great too

Haven't played classical music in 3 years. I started in music school when I was 10, from kid's songs, etc, to classical. Sibelius, Beethoven, Bach. I quit there when I went to the army at 19. After the army I moved to a bigger city, to go to the university, and applied for a pop jazz academy, and got in. Trying to learn more about those styles. Occasionally I'll go back to the songs I used to play when I was still playing classical, but I haven't learned any new pieces since I quit. Rachmaninoff for sure would be impossible to me. IIRC Chopin and Debussy aren't the easiest either.

Many pieces I played when I was at my peak in classical seemed really hard at first. When my teacher played it, I was wondering how on earth she expects me to do it. But when you practice hard enough, you realize you're a better pianist than you thought. Gives you great gratification.

I remember too staring at the sheet thinking it's impossible, but like always, you just need to learn to visualize it in some simpler way, in this case, just repeating the same movement. Still an interesting piece with such sudden changes in dynamics, etc.

Agree with all of your post. The subtle dynamics are what I love about the Satie pieces. They are really pretty simple. I don't think you'd have trouble with them at all.

Well, I guess I'll look for the sheets online and see if I feel inspired.
