My biggest use for smartphones is the camera, followed by the voice recorder, then as an mp3 (and all music) player. When I had an iPod touch I would go weeks w/o using my phone.

I discovered on my trip in January that my phone is a way better camera than my camera (Sony alpha100, a decent digital SLR).

Still have to figure out how to use the phone camera better, but I suppose I should stop hauling around the camera.

Oh, and with a smartphone I can say, 'Alexa, play 'Dancing in the Moonlight.'"

My phone broke this week and I had to get a new one. I only use it for phonecalls, the ocassional text, an alarm and if I am out checking sports scores or market prices. I will also use google maps if I need directions somewhere. I don't/won't use it for scrolling internet. As far as music goes I have an ipod which gets much more use than my phone.

For some reason, I wasn't receiving texts one day this week. I was taking a nap in the afternoon. Someone is knocking on my door. My friend who lives a mile from me showed up because she thought I may have had another seizure.

I asked her why she just didn't try calling. She didn't know, but I think this shows how much we rely on texting instead of phone calls.

My daughter doesn't call either when I don't reply. She just keeps texting "Bueller?"

After these past couple weeks, seizures and all, I think I will celebrate the last day of classes by having a glass of wine by myself. Can't drive anywhere, won't see anyone but Felix, can't even walk anywhere.

I think this will mark the third time I've had a drink by myself in the past 35 years, maybe longer. I guess I don't have a drinking problem.

Third time? I don't exactly know what my number is but I am pretty sure it's greater than 3 Right now I have 2 limes. I like a quarter of a lime squeezed into my gin n' tonic. That means I can have 8 gin n' tonics. Unless I decide to stretch the limes. Then again if I drink 8 gin n' tonics I would be so wasted I wouldn't care if the ninth one had lime or not. I really don't expect to use up both limes tonight but then again who knows? I am in a pretty good mood and the first one is going down real easy.

That adjunct life is pretty miserable, Dom, and only a handful of adjuncts can pick up anything in the summer.

I know how lucky I am, but I work with a bunch of people who have no clue. We have about 800 adjuncts and 275 full time faculty. And all of those adjuncts could easily replace us.

I see that Mystik Dan won the Kentucky Derby yesterday.

Unfortunately, I had a suitcase full of cash on Lucky Dan.

They must have the Kentucky Derby on the same day as the 2000 Guineas.

Newmarket. Suffolk. Home of Gainsborough and Constable. And churches with thatched roofs.

I like churches with thatched roofs; they are easier to set on fire and burn down. A few flaming arrows should do the job.

win or lose the things you gain trying far outweigh benefit from being included in the windsor gene pool

Yeah, but not no smoke alarms. You're not disabled but you need a smoke alarm?
05-05-2024 , 10:18 PM
the sound of smoke alarms is well suited for family you want to have live after a fire event

Seat belts is another one. I never wear a seat belt.

makes total sense on the off chance you happen to drive across a pond
otherwise you may not find yourself floating to the top

While pet sitting, I'm have tripped and aggravated the bruised ribs from the seizure s couple weeks ago. Last night, I turned the light off before going to bed and only managed one cheek on the bed. Fell off, banged my head against the bedside table, bruised the ribs once again.

This is either age catching up to me or carelessness. In other words, don't take the stairs carrying boxes and get a bedside light in a strange house. I'm thinking age right now.

I don't know about that, but the Kentucky Derby is on the first Saturday in May (when we're not having a global pandemic or world war).

I've been thinking about this for a while. I haven't come up with a solution yet. One conclusion I have made is that if I want to do something, I had better do it now. Tomorrow I will be older. If I'm lucky.
