I see the 1/23 bn powerball was won by a ticket in Oregon. Until informed otherwise, I'm going to assume it's Red or Zeno. Congratulations!

I heard an interview with a guy who won about ten million. Asked how he felt, he said who could really use the money.

Watching the women's championship. Center for SC is 6' 7".

I know the women are drawing big numbers of viewers, and I wonder if legal sports betting has made a difference?

Wow. The White Sox really suck, but the Marlins are even worse.

93% eclipse didn't produce much darkness. Sun still shone brightly through the windows.

Received a text poll from Trump campaign that is only sent to Trump's strongest supporters.

I guess the algorithm isn't 100% accurate.

Sample question:

Do you support America First?

Yes-MAGA

NO

Pollster apparently not familiar with the either/or fallacy.

This is quite the world view:

"As a child growing up in the Hare Krishna community in the United States, I was forbidden to be outside during a solar eclipse.

In our version of Vedic astronomy, eclipses are believed to be a deeply inauspicious time when the demon Rahu’s decapitated head chases the sun and the moon. In this chase, Rahu’s head obscures or swallows the sun. A visceral fear would sweep our community as an eclipse approached. We crowded into the inner sanctum of the temple to recite prayers, hoping to counteract the forces of darkness that were consuming our universe. As totality enveloped us, a profound sense of unity between our community and Lord Krishna crescendoed. As Rahu receded, the sun gradually dispelled the darkness, bringing collective relief as the forces of goodness triumphed over chaos once more."

Sounds like the cosmos is exhibiting the either/or fallacy.

What do Walter Mosley, Archie Shepp, Trey Anastasio, William H. Macy, Piers Anthony, and my cousin all have in common?

All are alumni of Goddard College in Vermont that, unfortunately, is closing. It has been one of the great liberal arts colleges in the country. But it can't survive on fewer than 200 students.

can Goddard College survival be boiled down to some ratio of tuition and instructor salary?
the schools attracting international tuition rates seem to have a leg up in faculty compensation, hence attraction

Goddard is a low residency school, meaning that students only go to the campus occasionally. I guess even being mostly online, it still can't survive.

Vermont is worth nuking. Which would infect all of New England is a positive way. And parts of Canada. An added bonus.

Now over six months without smoking. Another three weeks of school left to go. Then off to Hilton Head for a week of golf. Finalized plans for trip to Ireland in August.

Also doing my usual pet sitting for about three weeks total. Side benefit: I can take my friend's Aston Martin Superleggera out for a ride and feel like James Bond.

There's something about turning 70 that has made me want to do things and let other things go.

Drink lots when in Ireland. Stagger about shouting insults and you will fit right in with the locals.

Just poured my first gin 'n tonic of the 2024 spring/summer season. Tastes awesome! There are plenty of reasons to drink up so have a great weekend. Should be good as I can watch the Masters instead of White Sox baseball.

Watching golf beats watching the Red Sox.

I'm holding off on the gin and tonics until the weather gets better. Or play golf. Or both.

*public service announcement*

High priced booze is for suckers. Maybe if you are some kind of straight up bourbon or scotch connoisseur you can tell the difference. But if you are paying up for some crap like Grey Goose? GTFO! Yeah shy away from the bottom of the barrel rot gut but typical middle brand anything is fine. My "typical" gin is Bombay Sapphire. I just finished the last of the bottle and popped open a bottle of Bombay (which I got as a gift). Bombay costs about 5-7 dollars more per handle than Bombay Sapphire. Ehhhh? I can't tell the difference. I used to drink either Beefeaters ot Tanquery but found the less expensive Bombay Sapphire or Amsterdam just as good if not better.
