What’s heartwarming is when the Yankees lose.

Easter is a mythological disease for the credulous.

It has worked for thousands of years and will work for thousands of years into the future. The internet guarantees it!

Yes. And I've added the Mets to the list after rooting for them since they played at the Polo Grounds. I just can't fade the owners.

was a mets fan for all my life and willingly hedged my emotions every season hoping for a miracle

it stopped being fun when investment funds instead of families started owning the team

Two stories in the NY Times. One about a book club that took 28 years to read Finnegans Wake.

Another about what is, perhaps, the largest Star Wars memorabilia collections in the world. It's also the story of the relationship between two brothers who lived in the same house for 55 years. The younger brother, who filled three rooms with Star Wars stuff, died at 55. His brother, two years old, committed suicide after his younger brother's death. He had said that if his brother died, life wouldn't be worth living. This story would make for a great documentary, I think.

I suspect this is the future for a lot of teams.

Student says yesterday, "Fractions are *******s."

Glad I don't teach math.

Fractions are maybe top of the list of things that math students find the most confusing. I think it's the idea of equivalent fractions that befuddles them. 1/2 and 2/4 are not the same fraction, but they are equivalent fractions.

Bless you for teaching math. Or is it maths?

I'm counting the days until the end of the semester. We, students and faculty alike, are counting the days. I should just stop now. Not counting. Teaching.

Opening day came and went
Easter came and went
The weather? They weather don't give a damn as it is snowing like a biatch today. Good thing both Chicago baseball teams are at home today. MLB always does an outstanding job of scheduling as many games as they can early in the season in outdoor northern ballparks. Trying schedule more games down south or in domes would make too much sense.

In the Navy guys would make "short timers" chains to count down the end of a cruise, a transfer or more importantly an enlistment. Basically if they had 50 days to go they would clip together 50 paper clips and take one off each day until it was gone. I never did it but it was pretty wide spread.

I don't really count down the days although some semesters I'm tempted. It helps that I only work three days a week for 10 hours in the classroom.

I just wish the students would hang in there. Too many aren't attending class and that discourages me.

I am anticipating warm weather though. Low 40s, wind, and rain today and more rain predicted through into next week. Leaving for Hilton Head on May 10th, so I expect warm weather there.

Get a deck of playing cards. Throw away the jokers. When you have 52 days left, start throwing away a card every morning.

When you throw away the ace of spades, all you have to do is eat a bowl of corn flakes and get on a plane.

Thank you for your service.

Fat chance! The white sox are already 100% unwatchable. That said I have watched every inning so far but my patience is wearing thin. On the other hand my wagering has been going well.

Back in January I had a 3 day spell where my cable and internet went down. Modem took a dump and took 3 days to get the new one. So for those 3 days I was back into the dark ages. Well, I still had my phone but I despise looking at the internet on a phone. Other than checking the market a couple of times a day I didn't look at it.

For those 3 days I turned on some music and read. I loved it! I also watched a few DvDs but during the day when I would normally be watching the markets and browsing the internet I listened to music and read.

This changed my routine since. I am spending much more time just listening to music and reading. When I commuted I took the train 45 minutes each way when I could put on my headphones and read because there wasn't anything else to do. I found that I really missed that. I still read a little but only about 30-45 minutes a day. Now I am doing it 2-3 hours a day and I think I am better off for it.

How much/often do you guys read?

I read what I need to these days for teaching. For pleasure, I read poetry on a couple internet sites. This month is National Poetry Month, so I'm reading even more, maybe an hour or more each night. I rarely read novels any longer.

I've tried listening to books, but I can't seem to follow audio books.

In other news, the Red Sox are off to a good start.

Weather prediction for today is rain and possible snow. Not exactly baseball weather.

I never did an audibook. I get the feeling it is something I would like. But ... but I absolutely love listening to music while I read. Wouldn't be able to listen to two things at once. Also I think actual reading engages the mind better which I think is probably important as I enter old age to keep my brain firing on all cylinders.
