Fortunately, family and friends help me as much as possible. The semester is over next week, and all my exams are online.

My friend brought me dinner tonight, and she's taking me shopping tomorrow.

My daughter has been back and forth, getting little sleep the past three days. She worries but doesn't show it. I love that kid.

Just popped open my second beer of this fine Friday and they are going down way too easy. Could be one of those nights. Good time to drink up, forget about the world outside and lose myself in some mindless movie or tv show. Cold and rainy outside anyway. Have a big pot of chili simmering which I will dig into in a little while.

Woo hoo! White Sox win 3 in a row. That means they have already won 6 games this year! Coupled with the Bears outstanding draft and off season my White Sox to win world series/Bears to win superbowl parlay is looking pretty pretty good right now

Last week of classes, and I missed all of last week with the seizures. Fortunately, I give all the exams online and only need to go in to pick up papers at the campus ten minutes from my apartment.

My colleague will take me to campus a couple days this week (she lives a mile from me), then it's off to pet sit for a week, followed by a week of golf in Hilton Head.

Unfortunately, because I'm banned from driving, I won't be able to take my friend's Aston Martin Superleggera out for a ride. Oh, well.

I typically ride, but I tend to do a lot of walking when I ride. The cart carries the clubs.

Sorry to hear about the seizures John.

When you say you feel off is that the aura that people talk about? Hopefully in the future you can use that to keep from driving or going down stairs for the day?

I’m glad you’re ok and that they seem to be isolated. I assume you’ve done the usual brain scans to see what it could possibly be from?

I lost my cellphone a week ago. I locked it remotely, then waited a couple of days to see if I could recover it. Then I ordered another for pickup, and it's been ready since Monday.

I can't bring myself to pick it up because I have been just so happy without it. I don't want it, but I have aged relatives and kids and sometimes I just have to make a call. So I'll go pick it up tomorrow. Or maybe this weekend. Monday at the latest.

I've been reading a book for the first time in ages and really enjoying it, but I guess I will put that down and watch high school girls dancing on TikTok. Sigh.

I may try to get a flip phone the next go-round. I tried to go flip 3 years ago, but couldn't find a plan cheaper than google fi.

My biggest loss going back to flip would be the maps. I think I could live pretty happily without everything else. Occasionally the hotspot feature.

On smart phones:

I couldn't manage without one, at least not now. I answer emails from students at all hours of the day. It's much easier than going through emails the next day.

I use it constantly for directions and texting. I'm under orders to text one of our friends every morning and night while I'm pet sitting. I know I can do this on a flip phone, but it's painstaking. Also use it for pictures.

But I do waste too much time on a phone, except when I'm teaching.

My office mate's 22 year old daughter came in last week to see her mother. Although I do know the daughter, we don't really have conversations.

The kid is an overachiever. She graduated in three years and is finishing her MBA in a year and with a few summer courses.

This time we had a 45 minute conversation (her mother was teaching). It's nice to spend time talking with young adults. I do work with young adults, but it's rare to have a long conversation with them. They are always rushing off to the next class or to work. Nevertheless, I find them thoughtful and hopeful, very different from a more stereotypical portrait.
