Not very English. Tradition and a public celebration of achievement. I enjoyed both my graduations: for a B.S. and my masters degree. The drunken orgy afterwards was also fun.

Nuking the French is obviously worth the effort. I’ve always vacillated if nuking the English would be worth the trouble. Obviously, the Irish should be wiped off the map. Ditto for Canadians.

I know what it is! We've arrived at the West Coast! We're all strangers again! Folks, I just forgot the biggest gumption trap of all. The funeral procession! The one everybody's in, this hyped-up, ****-you, supermodern, ego style of life that thinks it owns this country. We've been out of it for so long I'd forgotten all about it.

Further explanation is needed.

I'm reading Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance for the fourth time. I recommended it to somebody last week, and started to look at a free, pdf copy of it, with no intention of reading much, and now I've nearly finished it again. They're travelling west, and have arrived in Oregon, and those lines seemed to go with Zeno's post somehow.

I've never read it, but I might if it's a PDF.

Zeno thinks the Irish should be eliminated. Good thing I'm only half Irish. Since the other half is British, I might get a break.

When Groucho Marx was told his daughter couldn't go into a club swimming pool because she was a Jew, he replied, "My wife is not Jewish. Can she go swimming and let our daughter wade up to her waist?”

Damn, I thought you were going to admonish me for giving a quote without a reference. In which case I was going to bring up the thread title.

There is a great sequence in the movie Blazing Saddles in which the Irish come up in a discussion! Perhaps some of you remember it.

Too English. And she doesn’t have boobs to speak of. Not a bad singing voice. So you hit one out of three. In baseball that ain’t bad.

Among the many scenes which would make a re-make of Blazing Saddles impossible today.

There's a beautiful passage in it where he teaches writing to a student with nothing to say by getting her to look at the ultimate brick.

14 year old granddaughter won $300 in a VFW "oratorical speech writing" contest.

In other news, not driving again really sucks. I need to ask people for help, which I don't like at all. And I was looking forward to driving in Ireland at the end of the summer.

After a week playing golf in Hilton Head, I found out I'm terrible but enjoy playing even more.

Finally home after over two weeks away. I let my friend borrow my car, but I was away when she asked. Fortunately for her, she knows how to get into my apartment that I never lock to get the extra key fob. I left two casserole dishes to soak and forgot to clean them before I went to pet sit for a week and a half. They stunk. She cleaned them.

I also have two weeks of pet sitting coming up for my daughter. I guess it's a good thing I have the summer off, but I sure as hell wish I could drive.

I guess I will watch tons of movies and get some reading done. What else is there to do?
