The contrast between LA and the rest of the US is wild. It seems the entire country has more or less moved on, at least where I visited.

If you are walking alone outside without a mask in this city, someone is going to walk by and give you a nasty look. Some days, you may even get yelled at for it. Holy ****, I'm 100 feet from everything and 70% of this state is supposedly vaccinated.

The weirdest is when someone walks by you, without a mask, then they stop, put it on, and think the mask can hide the filthy look they are giving you.

Yeah, I thought I may be going early enough to beat the rush. But I am still glad I went and enjoyed it a lot. I do think it will get even more crowded throughout the summer. But I have already decided to put off my trip up to Mackinac Island I was planning because I don't want to deal with a mob scene up there. Probably done with summer travel other than some non touristy places in Wisconsin. Maybe try to do something in the fall when kids are back in school.

spouse and i almost always make travel plans in mid- to late-september when school is back in session. the summer heat is usually less intense and the crowd numbers are typically much less. one of the benefits of not having kids of our own.

skip mackinac for sure. go to the pentwater area and around there. nice spots. and go find some petoski stones.
can camp at sleeping bear dunes on the lake.

Just a suggestion. Big Bend National Park is fabulous. No one, it seems, goes there.

Estes is always packed during the summer, but it may be worse now that we're opening up again. Not going up there to check, don't want to deal.

If you go up to N WI, mrb, let me know if you end up in Superior. No reason to go there for tourism, but I can turn you on to a couple places if you happen to be there.

My Wisconsin trips (if I make them?) will just be southern Wis and up along Lake Michigan between Milwaukee and Green Bay.

first newborn fawn arrived in my front yard on june 15th for me to see. a little late but around the right time frame.
its fun to watch it drink from mom and then jump around and try out its legs.

i leave very high grass around for them to hide in from the coyotes which always get a few each year. but i have many deer and nature needs to balance.

also have a few coyote pups that are on the property each year. this year it looks like just two made it so far.

I always see a lot of deer wandering around the forest preserves right near my house. But when I was out west I was surprised to see so many big assed elk wandering around Estes Park. There were about 5 of them grazing on the fairway of the golf course and then there was one munching on a bush right outside my motel room. But as we were checking into our motel in Grand Lake a fairly large bear scooted between the motel office and the car I just got out of. Those were my only wild animal sightiings on the trip other than a few lizards and little chipmunk looking things.

It's packed too, but reservations are possible only a week or two in advance. If you can hike and camp in back-country desert, you can usually go in any time.

Saw an elk at Grand Canyon. Never saw one before, and it definitely wasn't something I'd want to take a closer look at.

occasionally get a small herd of elk at my place. they dont stay long though.
couple days ago a black bear was in the back yard looking for food or something.
there is always something around the house. usually wild turkeys.

That was Me. I dug up that stash of gold you have in the back yard. I’ll require it when I travel to Sicily later this year.

unfortunately you will be swimming it over.

No problem - The gold will come in handy when I'm in Italy.

Italy is as close to paradise as you will get on this Earth. Most people don't understand this but for some it makes perfect sense (you may wish to limit your doses however). I love Italy. When I die, I want to be buried in some out of the way place in the boot heel. Overlooking a ramshackle village of nobodies.

That would even beat being buried in the Pantheon, like Raphael.

Your Italy is my Spain

neither one of you would be happy there for an extended period of time.
06-19-2021 , 09:12 PM
oh you, please expand on your opinion of what I like and don’t like

forgive ray ray. He's always a little anxious as a solstice nears, fearing John won't make the new thread in time. Then he starts to awfulize

Ok. I’m moving to France. Red is moving to somewhere in Portugal. We will all meet up in St Petersburg, Russia for Christmas. We will hide out in Albania if the authorities get too close.

You are not invited, Ray. Stay in Montana.

(Or words to that effect.)

My TrashBook already died. It's only 54 weeks old, and I won't pay Apple to get it fixed. They sold me a lemon, they know it, and of course, it's my fault.

Supposedly, there was water in it. I never spilled anything on it. Yes, I know everyone says that, but whatever.

I asked if they at least dabbed the water out of it: "no, we weren't authorized to do that."
06-20-2021 , 01:48 AM
yea there was probably water in it last year when you got it and it didnt evaporate.
