At the beginning, you aren't good at anything. It takes something you are passionate about and want to learn more about. If you are thinking "what am I good at?" before putting any effort into getting good at it, then you are putting the cart before the horse.

I cook for utilitarian reasons, meaning I don't want to poison myself. Anything more complex than making french-pressed coffee is annoying. I'll never be that good at cooking because it's less appealing than mopping my floors. I'll never be good at cooking.

So, start with something you wish you were doing more of. I like doing a few things, and I put a lot of effort into getting okay at it.

I have just apologised to a woman because I interrupted her chicken feeding routine. Anyone else had a better day?

I like doing The Hustle:

One life lesson that I have long learned, don’t be a snob. Some very clever bloke once mentioned this, something about the power of cheap perfume. See also “Oops upside your head”

I know that I am on a short rope, but I think that I will be forgiven for this misdemeanour

God I do wish that I had not missed the chance to smash Savilles head in, obvious at the time that he was a disgusting manipulative arsehole.

I’m going to have a rest. Some rice pudding if the wildness inside really takes a grip.

Be careful out there, or not, depending on your mood

Only a few flakes here, but mostly rain. I'm used to flakes though.

I don't think we have the equivalent of community colleges in the UK, and I'm not sure what they are. Some kind of cross between a school and a university?

It's basically a 2 year college and offers an associates degree. You can then transfer to a normal 4 year school for the last 2 years to earn a bachelor's degree.

Why do students go to community college instead of going straight to university?

Sometimes money. It's less expensive from what I understand. Some go to get the basics out of the way, then transfer the credits to a university as mrb said.

I think they might also have associates' degrees in things that don't necessarily need four-year degrees (accounting, nursing, auto/hvac type work), but not sure of that.

Oh, I think they might also have lower admissions standards. Gives people a chance to get some post-high-school education, or improve their resume enough that they can get into a four-year school after.

My undergraduate university degree was three years. Since when was it four years?

Yeah, I think lower tuitions are part of it as well as catering to commuter types of students. Most of them I believe are in more urban areas so you can go and still live at home or work and go part time.

4 years is the standard in the US. Probably a money grab

Freshman, sophomore, senior. What's the fourth year called?

Junior in between soph & senior.

Unless you're a redshirt athlete, then you get five years....

Seems as if I've read somewhere that most people do take a bit over four to complete. Probably depends on the degree.

Most universities try to have you get at least introduced to stuff outside your field. The Business college might have requirements to take some literature/art/music type stuff.

Maybe that's where the extra year comes in, not such a specialty in one degree's area?
