I love reading Montaigne, too. His sentences are like a walk in the woods -- they twist and turn and go around blind corners -- you never know where you'll wind up.

So I just moved into my parents basement. Actually it is a very nice very large rec room with lots of comfy chairs and sofas, a big screen TV, wet bar, fridge, bathroom, kitchenette so it is very comfy. Don't worry I'm not busto

About a week and a half ago my father (93) fell and broke his hip. They did a hip replacement that night. After a couple of days in the hospital he went a rehab place for a few days and we just got him home today. Hopefully I won't be here long as he is already moving around fairly well but with a walker. My mother (90) is in good shape but I wanted to be here to make sure everything is okay. Once we all feel he is self sufficient I'll be heading back home. He is certainly happy to be home again.

I set up all my computers for work and slapped an Amazon Fire TV on the TV set so I am all set until they don't need me around

Hope all goes well with the folks, Mr. Baseball. It can be trying. I know this because of my current situation. That is all I will say about that. Only certain portions of my personal life will be open for perusal. Civilized people understand this. Others, well.....let's not get into that.

John,

You are teaching your granddaughter some very useful habits that will help her and protect her throughout her life. Women, usually, have a tougher row to hoe than men. Excellent job in my opinion. Don't let up.

That is one of the main beauties of Montaigne's essays. Agree wholeheartedly.

Have to comment on the comment on Virgil. In Western Civ Class in college, I was supposed to read the Aeneid. I started so early on. But then my science classes took center stage and focusing on the important; I tossed the Aeneid into a ditch. Don't care much for epic poetry anyway. The questions on the Aeneid that jump from the page of the final exam were filled with rubbish. I passed easily.

I've always liked the Iliad and loved the Odyssey, so I assumed that I would like the Aeneid. I've never gotten past page 5 or 6. Dreck.

I don't normally watch this, but when did the Thanksgiving parade stop being a parade?
11-23-2017 , 11:05 AM
what do you mean i watch it every year. it moves from 77th street at central park down to 34th to macys.
it is really good. lots of acts on the street.

My father made us go to the Macy's parade every year when I was a kid. I can't think of many things I hate more than parades.

My mom made us go to church every Sunday, while my dad went to play golf with my uncles. I thought his religion better than ours. And still do.

I was in the identical situation. When I turned 12, my parents told me I had to make up my own mind about religion. I haven't been to church since.

Fore!

At least I'm not freezing my ass off in church, and being jostled non-stop by adults who are all two feet taller than me so I couldn't see a damn balloon anyway unless it was right above me - and that always scared the crap out of me, having a giant Bullwinkle appear directly above my head
