I love history, especially US history. My 3 favorite subjects of US history are The Revolution, The Guilded Age, and WWII Pacific theater. I decided to finally start rereading my extensive history collection because I havent in years and there is so much I have forgotten.
I started with WWII Pacific. I started with Ian Tolls trllogy which is the best all encompassing work of that portion of WWII. I am 2/3's through the first volume which brought me up to the battle of Midway. The battle of Midway is easily the most important battle of the Pacific theater and possibly due to its consequence the most important battle of the entire war since it allowed the US to really go with the Europe first strategy they planned on.
Anyway I ramble. I am a couple of Friday afternoon drinks deep
But I just fired up Midway (1976 version). I haven't seen it in a while and it isn't good enough. But it is better than the 2019 version. I really wish someone (Hanks/Spielberg maybe?) would give this the HBO treatment and do a proper 6-10 episode mini series. And I would even rather see that of the Battle of Leyte Gulf get that. If I ever make it to 9 figures (very doubtful!) I will commision writers and produce both of these!
