I have returned. May post a trip report over the next few days while petsitting for my daughter. My granddaughter's dance team is performing at Disney, so they got one day off before leaving for Florida.

The number of Guns N' Roses fans out there is incredible.

Met up with Golddog today on his trip across the country. He got to see Johnston, RI, a place that makes the Jersey Shore seem sophisticated.

Always nice to meet up with Loungers. Good luck with the rest of your trip, Golddog, and it was my pleasure.

Bad post. Now I feel compelled to visit Johnston, RI.

Best fast food?

Coldest Narraganset?

My friend's son-in-law who had never been to RI wanted to hear an authentic RI accent. So he took him to Johnston. He wasn't disappointed.

And Narragansett beer is no longer made in RI, but it still exists.

Best fast food is New York System in Olneyville, RI. My great-grandfather's middle name was Olney.

Thanks, John, that was a nice time.

Almost bought some Narragansett beer the other night. Was going to be Robert Shaw, but didn't have a Richard Dreyfuss to play off of.

I love trying to untangle New England accents. Is RI more like Boston or Vermont? I got in a big discussion about this with some old service buddies a couple of months ago.

RI accent is a bit like this: Polar Cola turns into Pola Coler. So it's close to Boston (vowels sound different ) but not quite. I once had a student spell Dana Farber as Daner Faba.

Are and Our sound the same in RI.

I sometimes hear Bostonians parking their cars with Pahk the Cah, and sometimes with Pack the Caa, but our Vermont buddy was more like PAAAArK the CAAAr. He would always sneak a trace of "r" in there, just when I thought he had dropped it, and I always wondered whether I was just imagining it.

Happy 4th everyone.

Raining here in RI, so perhaps it's time to go to the movies and see Guardians of the Galaxy.

John, thanks for the advice on taking US 1 into Maine. Fantastically beautiful both coastal and up north.
07-04-2023 , 11:17 PM
US 1 is a hoot. Also, if you are headed to the Left Coast next, take US 6 from P-Town to all points west. (Or US 20 from Boston for the less adventurous.)
07-05-2023 , 06:28 AM
Kind of did both, Mack. On the way in, it was 6 all the way across NE.

Went to Springfield one day, ran back on 20 before heading north
