To be fair, the house is kinda big.

And steep roofs. Hope the roofers are tied in.

Disappointing every time I see the crews in the neighborhood out here. No safety equipment.

They were not tied in. I think they will be done today.

I was a roofer for a couple of years in Austin. We never used any sort of safety equipment. If the roof was really steep, we just nailed 2x4s into the decking and stood on them. I remember working on a fairly steep 2 story hotel once. We didn't even nail any boards in. Kinda dumb looking back.

Summers were brutal. We started at dawn and worked until it got too hot. We might have been able to suffer through the day a bit longer, but the staples (we used staple guns back then) would shoot through the hot shingles. A lot of times we went back in the evening and worked some more.

In between we spent a ton of time at Barton Springs.

Texans are not noted for their brains! Never have been. I’ve worked in that neck of the woods many times and verified this fact. They can cook up some great BBQ, however; and they eat it while driving 100 mph on their busted up backroads while sucking down a Lone Star Beer and playing with the old lady’s tits at the same moment.

What a stupid looking house

In a waiting room at my doctor's. Astounded by how many people think it's ok to watch something on their phone with no earphones. Just have their volume cranked.

People suck.

I kinda like the house. When I saw the pitch, I said, "Nope, no roofing for me."

I've never used a staple. If I am driving down the street and hear an air gun, I slow down and listen. It takes 3 seconds to determine if they are crowning. If they are, I simply stop in the middle of the street and film them. Boy, have I pissed some people off. I'm an old fart so presumably I look as though I'd be easy to intimidate.

Not the thread for it, but when I see people being cheated I speak up.

Dom,

Many years ago, a little over twenty, when cell phones were pretty new, I was in a hospital waiting room when some guy started talking loudly on his cell doing business. This wasn't just people waiting to see a doctor. This was where people were waiting to hear about their husbands, or wives, or children coming out of surgery.

I was sitting next to this guy and began whistling Beethoven's Ode to Joy as loud as possible. He got up and left. I smiled and so did almost everyone in the waiting room. They knew what I was up to.

To be clear, I have an apartment there. The house was built in 1881 by a Civil War general. I have one of his desks. The house was sold a couple years ago for 15 million. I have no idea who bought it. I just send the rent to an LLC in Chicago. I may have the best view in RI. Even better, almost all of my closest friends live within 30 minutes of me and one a mile away, and another about three miles.

After being stuck in a bedroom community that was an hour and a half from here for years, I'm really glad to live in a stupid house. I get to see people again.

10-4 good buddy
may you keep bunking down in places which help you sleep

You could have a good game of Cluedo in that house.

Going to Chicago in a couple weeks to visit an old friend from high school and college. Also hope to meet up with my niece who is the director of Teen Services at the Chicago Public Library. If possible, I would also like to take in a Cubs game.

Trying to make the best of this summer without being able to drive.

That is a cool old house. How about a picture of that old desk too?

You'll need to ignore that it's covered with my junk. It has a nice leather cover that's hard to see.

That’s a cool old fashioned wood desk, anyone would be proud to have it in their office or study.

I’m only on my second Beer and it’s already 1:30. Does anyone know what day it is? The damn tourists are clogging up the highways and need eradication from the planet! And it’s not even the weekend yet!

Since it kinda feels like a Friday I am sipping on a gin 'n tonic. Luckily (or not?) for me we have no tourists. People flee here on holidays for someplace better.

Zeno and you other Pacific NWers...happened to see the forecast for that area earlier. Hope you're able to get through the extreme highs coming up.
07-03-2024 , 07:29 PM
recent chatter has backed off previous predictions
forecast in my neck of the woods barely stays in double digits and we don't get deep south humid or much direct sun

only made tolerable because we have ac in the bedroom and habitable basement space
