Starting a day early because I might forget tomorrow. 95 degree temps expected inland in RI. It might hit 75 at my house.

My doctor's office closed due to a "heat emergency," so the doctor can't send a referral for an appointment I have tomorrow.

I think the office has air conditioning.

Shayne Cohn on the 88. We usually see her on cornet, as we did in the famous Tuba Skinny video where the dog wanders around.

Driving up the 1 in CA this week

All this land north of SF is almost as beautiful as down Big Sur but not as touristy. If there were mountains closer I’d move here

Last time I was in California, I drove on Route 1 but only as far as Point Reyes and back to my cousin's house in Mill Valley. My friend was a bit scared driving over Mt. Tamalpais.

Fortunately, Route 1 was open in Big Sur and not that crowded.

Walked up for a haircut this AM. Passing the coffee shop, saw my neighbor outside having a cup with someone, so stopped to chat. Turned out the other guy was associate pastor for his church.

Pastor: "Do you go to church?"
Me: <snap> No.
Pastor: "Are you interested?"
Me: <snap> No.
Paster: "Want to talk about it?" (moves empty chair forward a bit with his foot, inviting me to sit)
Me: <snap> No.

Don't believe I've ever met a pastor-salesman before.

Yeah some of that driving north of the Bay is surprising. The higher parts of Berkeley too. Being from the north I always think “sure is good these people never get any snow/ice!”

Big Sur is a special place. Sitting in redwoods looking down at the ocean feels like a portal to prehistoric times to me

I have. Maybe it's a sample size thing, as I tend to avoid those sort of people.

No, but a fan of the Reverend Horton Heat. Also, on my retirement trip, I stumbled across Beer Church, which might be the kind I'd go to. Unfortunately, they weren't open when I passed through.

The First Church of Zeno welcomes all comers, Beer is free; but you must provide a donation if you want a mixed drink.

Amen! I just drained a couple of beers but will switch to gin 'n tonic because I have to use up some limes this weekend. Don't expect a donation though! I gotta use my limes because I am going on my annual road trip/hiking trip on Monday. Going to Cuyahoga Falls for a few days with some old college buddies. Also probably gonna head down to Canton to take in the Football Hall of Fame. I understand they have an entire wing dedicated to Chicago Bears QB's due to their storied history

I want to go by there someday. They might think I'm nuts--but then again, they might not.

My late friend Andy and I would spend time playing chess and listening to this album when we were in high school.

So this album holds a special place for me.

This is great. I wonder if people still record jazz albums that can be listened to by high school kids playing chess. Or even do high school kids still play chess and if they do, do they do it online, alone in their rooms?

My friend Mike and I used to play cribbage and try to beat out the time signatures listed on the back of Brubeck's Take Five album.

Six-card cribbage, one hopes.

It better be unless you're playing teams. Then it's five cards.

I didn't know there is any other kind.
