Round 4

Movie

Unbreakable

Movie is a tough category because if I hate it I typically turn it off 15 minutes in. There are lots of those I really despise a lot of Lounge favorites but decided to go with something more universally hated. An M. Night Shamlamadingdong movie. Actually I don't hate all of his but this one I definitely do.

I guess Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson kept me in until the end? I don't remember as I haven't seen it in 15 years. All I know it had some stupid comic book twist at the end that left me pissed off.

so far:
The Chicago Cubs
Apple
The Man Bun
Unbreakable

I hate the NBA because I used to love it. The last time I was interested, Clyde was fronting the Knicks.

How they managed to ruin the game is beyond me. They should try staggering the start times so that instead of showing one game, they could show the last two minutes of *all* the games. Wait, that would take too long. The last two minutes take, what, a half hour?

NBA sucks

My Wildcard hate is Hidden Additional Fees

This is less of an issue in my of the world but in the US you have a printed cost for an item and then a very different cost that you actually pay.

If a meal costs $9.99 then you have to pay tax and a compulsary service charge and then you're expected to tip on top of that. I mean WTF?

The only reason to do this is to make things seem cheaper than they actually are which is dishonest. Sure everyone's doing it and everyone expects it, but it doesn't make it right. If the $9.99 meal actually costs $17.82 then that's what you should print on the menu. If everyone did that then the world would be a much better and clearer place

Sort it out

Loved the Pina Colada song and Pumpkin spice picks. Deserved hate. Wish I had thought old Rupert.
Nba, not so much. Not perfect, but far from hate.

On the clock, waiting for inspiration.

I don’t know what else to call it.

I’m all for doing what you gotta do for yourself to make yourself happy and make your life better, and there is nothing really wrong with any of them in and of themselves. But the mindset and way of being for those that try to do them is unbearable. I swear, everyone I’ve met that does them is trying to make up for having been a piece of **** before you knew them. The Secret, Practice Gratitude, The Power Of Positive Thinking, etc, etc, etc. You could even put yoga practitioners and vegans in there a lot of the time. A militant vegan is just as bad as any devout religious person.

To be more specific where my hate is placed, its not these things themselves or the all of the people that practice these things. Its that they can’t keep it to themselves, and the **** they spew are the worst attributes of what they’re “selling”. Its like the ones that are the worst to deal with are in the beginner stages with no idea how to apply what they’re learning. They make for annoying acquaintances and ****ty friends.
I'm not in this draft and I don't want to seem like a nit, but I feel like this would be a Wild Card. An inanimate object is something tangible (like sand, that was picked already), whereas this is like a lifestyle. Anyways, still really enjoying this!

Guy Fieri is a great one, **** that guy.

Now Rupert Holmes I personally think is awesome. Very talented, been a fan of his since the mid-70s when he was still unknown. She's gonna have to do without Him...or do without me!

Kudos to you guys for doing this thread. My take on the draft thus far:

"Honey" is such a strong pick that it could have gone #1 overall. And would have if I had had first pick. Excellent choice!

"Pina Colada Song" doesn't quite do it for me. It is worthy of scorn and ridicule but not hate iyam.

NBA is a great pick that I didn't see coming. I abandoned the NBA in the early '90's and have never been tempted to return.

Sriracha was another great pick. Millions of people love this stuff??? What a bland hot sauce. Looks like catsup but without any flavor. How???

Pumpkin-spice was another solid choice. My wife's 3rd favorite day of the year is the day she can get her first PS latte. WTH?

A lot of picks fall into the same "scorn and ridicule" class as Pina Colada Song for me, but I have very aggressively avoided most of them so maybe that is why they didn't cross the hate line for me.

Carry on, folks! Hate is a worthy pursuit!

Round 4 Pick

Category: Artist

Hated Specimen: Van Gogh

I can see it already, everyone is looking at their screen and...

WAIT

WAIT

WAIT

Hear me out!

I'll bet you like Van Gogh for 3 reasons:

1- You like the sound of his name.

2- He cut off his ear because he cray cray.

3- You like Starry Night.

Let's rebut this one by one.

1- You like the sound of his name.

No you do NOT. You don't even know how to pronounce it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ceo7E1R78yo

Even the Anglicized version we all know is wrong. It isn't "Van Go."

2- He cut off his ear because he cray cray.

Actually, evidence is showing that he got his ear chopped during a spat with his lover. If true, he told the cray cray story because he didn't want his lover to get in trouble.

3- You like Starry Night.

Yeah, and what else do you like?

Oh, right, you don't know.

He drew a bunch of still lifes of flower pots, and when he got bored, he drew flower pots, and guess what else he drew? Flower pots, grass, trees, and flowers.

A guy who drew damn near nothing but flower pots managed to take those silly flower pots and turn them into Starry Night, which happens to look like a huge flower pot. Yeah, he does have other stuff that isn't Starry Night and flower pots, but they all look like Starry Night while featuring the same swirly pattern as Starry Night (and flower pots, in case I forgot to mention them).

And this is what bothers me about Van Gogh. He is so much more legend than substance. He is the art-world's ultimate one-hit wonder, doing one HUGE painting, but the rest are just reduxes or preambles, using the same brush strokes, same patterns, and flowery... sigh.

Don't get me wrong, if it wasn't for Van Gogh and Starry Night, I may have never really taken the dive into art world knowledge like I've done, so I do have his one work to thank, but if I was going to see an art retrospective, Van Gogh would be the very last of them I'd ever pay to see.

(it's really hard to hate on an artist. I respect the guy, so he's the light-weight pick from me).

daveT's picks:

Wacky Tobaccy
Shawshank Redemption
Spun Diego
Van Gogh

Wild Card. Adam f***** Sandler - Movie Star

I heard that tomorrow is this dips**** birthday (he'll be 50).
I have never had to endure an entire movie of his, but every part of what I have seen is exactly like all of the other movies that he made (approx 40 I think) which is one for every pound over 200 he is. What a waste - he tries to come across with the coolness of James Bond in every scene with a kid or some grossly over-paid star that is his love interest for his current piece of crap he is grinding out. The only reason I would subject myself to this visual horror show is because of the ladies (Drew Barrymore & Jennifer Aniston) that he gets to win, lose, and then win in every f***** movie except The Longest Yard in which I'm sure he managed to play "drop the soap" with all the convicts until his ahole looked like 2 day old CiCi's pizza.

redbuck picks:
Honey
Golf announcers
Sand
Adam Sandler

Wild Card - Evian or Fila Bottled Water
This is one of the worst hoaxs ever. People pay good money for a plastic container of water - sometimes $1, and often more, if you're at some yuppie event where you want to pay more. I can only blame this on the consumer. 70% of the earth is covered with water, now granted most of it is salt water, but still some dbag will fall all over himself to pay for this horse piss because he thinks it makes him cool.. I've even heard some deranged putz say "I like brand A, it taste better than brand B", WTF you flaming ahole. Oh, and how about the hockey puck that orders a bottled water, and then pours in into a glass of ice.
Wise up America or next year you'll get suckered into buying iced coffee.
Huh, oh never mind...
