I really don't care much about musical talent in a school sense. I care if the music is worth listening to. The Doors is garbage, and no matter how much talent they had or didn't have, their music sucks.

You can include Van Halen. Arguably the greatest guitarist of the 80s*, but name me one good album created by that band.

* someone is going to go bonkers on that claim, but it's not mine.

i don't disagree with the van halen comment, but you need to go back to the 70's to find their best albums (the early ones)

When I was a kid, before my dad would leave for work in the morning, he would go down into the basement a play records at full volume. Van Halen 1 and 2 were in constant rotation.

Randy Rhoades was clearly the GOAT of the 80's. Van Halen was just a weak knock-off.

My thoughts exactly. He was also a true class-act. I'm not going to search the webs for this, but from what I read in the old music mags:

During tours, Rhodes would stop in every city to take a guitar lesson (mind that his mother was a classical guitar teacher). At times, the teacher wasn't good enough to show him anything, so Rhodes would end up giving the teacher a lesson and pay anyways.

Rhodes could lay down incredible music that was both complex for the genre, yet still accessible, music, and heartfelt.

I rarely agree wit Dave when it comes to music and movies, but on this I do. The Door are incredibly bad and unlistenable for me.

VH is also unlistenable from 1984 on, except for Panama and hot for Teacher.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that doesn't like the Doors.
