Okay, we've done this many times. You know the drill.

Songs must be "of the rock era." Interpret that to mean what you want. Nothing released before Rock Around the Clock.

If you want to choose the songs you truly think are the best, so be it.
If you'd rather choose the songs you most want to listen to for the rest of your life, that's fine, too.

Repeats are acceptable if you want to choose the same song but from another artist.

Only SINGLE songs will be accepted. No multiple-part suites or a song plus it's reprise or 2nd part or whatever. If the listing on the album or CD is "XXXX" and it clocks in at 23:14, you're good to go. Got it?

No operas.

Show tunes are acceptable.

Songs from film or TV soundtracks are acceptable - as long as they are listed as a single song! So your favorite TV show theme is perfectly acceptable.

Here is the randomized order:

rakeme
MrWookie
Dominic
A-Rod's Cousin
50yearoldnit
Zeno
mrbaseball
R*R
daveT
nyc999
Kudzudemon
Steamraise

Reverse snake order. Rakeme will go first in round 1 and last in round 2. And then 1st in round 3. And so on. We will go ten rounds. Once you are on the clock, you have 4 hours to post. If you get skipped, you can make your choice at any time. If you have been skipped and your turn comes again without you making a pick, you will be automatically skipped until you do.

Please provide a decent write-up and a link (if possible) to the song. Once you make your choice and submit it to this thread, you are requited to PM the next person on the list.

You will also be responsible for posting your pick in the spreadsheet.
That reminds me: someone make a spreadsheet! I'm playing poker.

50yearoldnit, we usually only include posters with over 100 posts and/or that we know, but I'm an inclusive kinda guy. If you're at all confused about what's going on or how we do this, refer to the "Dancing About Architecture Album Draft." And feel free to ask questions.

I will allow new drafters to join while we're still in the first round. They will be added to the end of the list.

When are we starting?

Rakeme is on the clock!

But since he's first, I'll give him until the morning. He might be on the east coast

How long do you have on the clock, and is there a dead zone for the night?

Also, order looks rigged. I suspect the commish is corrupt.

Pick #1. This is Pink Floyd's 24 minute masterpiece, "Echoes", from Live At Pompeii. Pink Floyd had entered an experimental phase after Syd Barrett's departure and lead guitarist David Gilmour's joining. It took a few attempts by Floyd to capture this sound before finally coming up with Echoes. It's personally my favorite song of all time because it's so original and well put together, it's simply a masterpiece.

*Cool fact, the studio version off of the album "Meddle" completely syncs up with the final 23 and a half minutes of the movie "2001: A Space Odyssey"

Doesn't *undrafted* supposedly sync perfectly with some popular movie featurning some wizard?

Every one has 4 hours. I'm fine with a dead zone after 12 pm est.

Clarifying rule:

You can pick a live version of a song only if the non-live version by the same artist has not been taken. However, if a live version has been selected before the non-live version, the non-live version is still on the table!

This only refers to a song by the same artist.

Other artist covers of any song are always on the table.

And I knew someone would take Echoes early. Lol

What do you think about allowing people to draft longer remixes? I'm leaning towards not allowing it

This is going to be harder than it looks. I've already got over two hundred songs on my list and I'm not even through "C" yet.

I would like in on this if possible. I'm a professional (albeit non-rock) musician and think I would have some interesting input. Led Zeppelin is my fav of the era, just so you know I'm not a psycho or anything. Would co-own if needed.

Suggestion: I think each pick should include all versions of the song made by that band. I.E. Pink Floyd "Echoes" should include the studio and all live versions as my selection. I mainly just put the Pompeii version up for the visual effect. But whichever way you want is cool.

I'm not going to allow it, simply because you're brand new to the forums and no one here knows you. But keep opting in The Lounge and you can get in on the next one.

I think you're right about this. All versions by that artist.

And don't hesitate to comment. Another perspective is welcome, and it builds up the ol' post count, so you can participate in the next one. Just don't mention any undrafted songs.

Dominic,

Thanks for letting me slide in under the 100 post count. I've reviewed some of the other "draft" threads and think I halfway know what's going on. I probably will have some newb questions as we go along. I'm about halfway computer illiterate [not even real sure how to post a You Tube video], but I'll try to figure it out.

Request to be in.

Dom,
imo posters with pre 2010 join dates qualify, even if <100 posts.

Round 1, Pick #2 Overall

Pretty happy to select this epic blues rock symphony at #2 overall. It featuring a top-3 all time rock guitar player at the top of his game leading his group through several soulful movements of rock spanning both the thunderous and the serene and clocks in at over 20 minutes. YouTube doesn't seem to have the exact live recording I'm targeting (I'm going for this one), but this was from nearly the same time at the same place and has much of the magic.

I'm about to leave to go fathers' day shopping and run some errands. Haven't really done research yet and I'm up #4. I don't want to kill 4 hours of the draft for no good reason so if you want you can officially slide me down a few slots and move a few guys up 1 slot each, then I'll remain in that draft slot for the duration.

I'll definitely be ready to pick something later on in the day.

Yes, and Lagdonk could use an extra gun once he manages to select the entire IV album.

Great draft we got going here. It looks like Dom is now skipped. And Arod is skipping. So I guess we'll see if 50yearoldnit can come through.

Is there a spreadsheet? Maybe we do double-picks the last 5 rounds to expand the selection (without having to wait for picks).

Quantity over quality ITT. Self-indulgent jam band garbage imo. A rock and roll song is three and a half minutes long yo
