I save all of the carcasses except cabezon. Crab don't like to go anywhere near cabezon. I use chicken carcasses too. I got 4 crab last weekend also.

I hate furbags but I'd never shoot one. At least not in the ocean. I'd be pretty tempted to shoot one in my yard if it was at all aggressive. On the ocean they will steal your fish right off of your hook, they will steal your crab and bait, they are known to try to board boats-even kayaks, and they attract sharks. if I made a living fishing my attitude and willingness to kill one might well be different.

Awesome stuff crashjr and Ray Zee.

I really need to get over to the west coast and hang out by the ocean and fish! Sounds like so much fun!

Hit me up if you (or Ray Zee or anyone else) are out between Depoe Bay Oregon and Mendocino County CA and we can hit up some ocean fishing. Depending upon what you want to catch and what time of year it is will depend upon where to go.

I even have an extra kayak if you want to go that route

We are in Wisconsin right now and had a short trip out on Lake Michigan. We were only fishing for a very short time before we got blown off the water. But, the boy did get a very nice 17lb king

i have a small kayak at my place on the north coast. but i must say i take my 18 foot alumaweld out instead.
ive been using one pot and two rings for the crabs. this way its more fun pulling up the rings every 20 minutes and seeing whats in there.
im crabbing in 20 feet of water so its not so much pulling. instead of stinky fish or mink carcasses im just zip tying a turkey leg in the traps and that works great. plus the seals dont like the turkey and mess up everything.

crashjr, don't you worry about one of those crabs grabbing the jewels when you store them there.

Ray, what is a ring?

I store them in the front hatch. They are in the cockpit for a photo op, plus it is kind of tradition to put your limit out like that when you land around here.

I've been pinched before. It leaves a mark.

Traps are three dimensional and actually prevent the crab from leaving once it enters. Rings lay flat on the bottom and crab are free to come and go. You only catch what is in them when you haul it up. Rings weigh a lot less and are better for actively fishing. Traps are best later in the season when left to soak while you go do something else.

yea rings are more fun as you are fishing kinda. its a large hoop with netting going down to a smaller hoop. with the bait in the center of the small hoop. you pull it up quickly every 20 minutes and the crab that are inside the cone that is coming to the surface get trapped inside.

crabs bite hard. but not if you keep your hand behind them.wear gloves if scared and most they will grab the glove and you wont get hurt too much.

Yeah Ray, I have a very basic kayak. The Mirage drives are considered "the dark side" in jest with the people that have them.

My next boat will be a Hobie Mirage Adventure Island. People have gone from the mainland to Catalina on those, so chasing salmon and tuna should be nice and easy.

I really want to go crabbing some day. I have a friend I used to work with that stays in Coos bay and does that during the season. I see pictures and get hungry right away! Mmmmmm......

One of these days!

fresh dungeness crab blow away the frozen king crab you get in the store. freezing crab takes away about half the taste.
the season is all year in Oregon. but colder months are best

Today, I pulled the shades aside and looked out with great relish on the great outdoors just on the other side of the window pane. It looked chilly.

I then pulled the shades closed again.

Brrrrrrrrrr.

They don't get outside too much, but that doesn't stop the trolling or having an opinion.

Sort of like Fish and Game commissioners in that regard, really.

just trying to guess. but it looks like seven wood ducks there. the pond is mucky like in the central flyway. maybe Louisiana. which the limit there is three of them. you have seven so you must of had three hunters. each state is different just trying to use detective skills to see where you are from.
