Off the top of my head
Yellowtail
Tuna
Cobia
Sea bass
Swordfish
Mahi
Snapper

Are all better than any freshwater fish, with the exception of burbot, which is the most delicious freshwater fish imo

I love my fried perch/walleye, but man, there's nothing better than a perfectly rare tuna steak.

I have to admit that I do love Tuna. I prefer it raw/Sashimi though.

My most proud day was when I sent the prey I catched to receive a skull carving (it sure was kinda expensive). Now I rang it on my dinner room as a trophy. I look forward to do this again whenever I have enough time and money.

That is really really cool! We have some very good Native American artists here who pain buffalo (American Bison) skulls and they come out really nice as well.

Did they take a skull of yours and do the carving? The only thing I see is how to just order one they already have. Really cool. Almost makes me want to get another Buffalo Skull and have them do this.

Wow, would love to see a pic!

Unfortunely they didn't, I had to do the work on a local store, but asked them to make something similar from one of those at the website (which came out great).

fire update... they evacuated the small town of 100 people. the fire has gotten close and embers are flying around. they closed the hiway across the northern part of the state in that area.
its still a half mile or so away from the townsite. but we are going to get some major winds and weather change on saturday. which way the fire goes is up in the air.

my cabin is close to the town on the river so if the town goes likely mine will go also.

I will try to remember next time I am around one of the painted ones.

Ray,
Holy crap.. I sure hope it all works out and the damn fire doesn't get you. Believe me I understand the deal there and it is not at all fun.

Really smoky here as well and we are way far away from the actual fires

If you don't mind me asking, which fire is that? There are so many burning up in that area.....

I though that was the one. Will be thinking of you and the rest of the folks up there. The smoke down here is bad but I am sure not as bad as there. Hopefully the winds blow the other way and things work out.
When I have the chance try to let us know how its going. Damn fires.

its not so much my cabin but the acreage around it that is so special. if the river corridor goes it will be bleak around there for a long time. the cabin is insured but not the land around it from fire. and that has the most value.

I know exactly what you mean. It its the same thing at my house. If the trees here go it would just not be the same.

Just read that evacuation order for town of Essex is lifted this morning. Great news. Hope the area around your place was spared any damage.

we had some rain and cool weather all week. so they let the people back in. in no way is the threat over but maybe slowed down. i would expect though to not lose the cabin at this point.

they are also getting more help in and are using bulldozers in the path of the fire line to make some breaks.

a few nights will be around freezing so maybe some snow will hit it.

its been a funny year so far. some of my apple trees that dont ripen till hit by frost have edible apples already. and a couple deer are still in the front yard every day with spotted fawns.

blue birds nested by the house and are still around.
the bear has come around early and eating the chokecherries. the huckleberry harvest is bad this year so that may be it.

Sounds good so far hopefully the weather keeps cooperating. I know with our big fire a few years ago the only thing that finally ended it were some big rains and cooler weather. I guess I shouldn't even say ended it. Most of the fires we have seen this year were from coal seams that are still burning from that fire.

I have seen fawns with spots well into archery season before, especially with whitetail. But it still seems late for that. All the chokecherries around my place have been long gone. The birds got to them when they were still green for gosh sake. That seemed a bit weird.

I've seen lots of tiny ducklings over the past week or so. I thought it was quite odd for them to have a brood so late into summer.

i have some young ducks on one of my ponds as well. it must be second broods this year.

birds have less to eat with the dry weather and the berries are easy pickings for them. less bugs running around on the dry earth. and few worms close to the surface for the robins and woodpeckers to get.

the cool weather has come along with a few days of good rain. it is even maybe supposed to snow in the higher country this weekend.
the fire by my cabin has quelled and people can return and the road is now open again without pilot cars or delays.

hunting season is getting under way and the woods are opening for it.

Hoping that we have turned the corner on summer and moving on to fall. Missing the opening two weekends of hunting (archery ). Hope my buddies have elk on the ground already though.

The youngest, is leaving with some of his Air Force buddies on a 2 plus week back country archery elk hunt deep in the mountains of Idaho. I am jealous but really very excited for him. Makes me feel really good that he gets to put all the lessons to use and experience some great adventure.
