Had this pic on game cam yesterday morning. Came from National Forest in Arkansas. Anyone that knows anything about eastern whitetail deer hunting will know what an exceptional public land deer this is. I'll quit showing game cam pics, as soon as I shoot something!

Nice story Zinn and great pics too! Glad the boy got one.

Nice Public land buck as well!

My big game season is now ended. I did not end up getting my Bull this year. I saw lots of them, should have killed the first one I saw opening day but missed and had several other close opportunities and even had one in my crosshairs with the safety off and didn't shoot since he was just simply too young and small. I am a bit sad but at the same time OK with the results. I put in my time and had lots of adventure, saw lots of country and saw a lot of elk. So , I really have nothing to complain about.

I did end up filling my Buck tag with a 5 point muley this year which I am happy with since there were not many deer to be had anywhere.

Picture time!

My buck

Some country we were hunting.

looks like a mild part of the missouri breaks. you hunting out there?
do you still need to draw a special elk permit to hunt them in the breaks.

This is all just state land south of Ashland and Custer NF.
Yes, I believe you need a permit to hunt bulls in the MR Breaks. The rifle permit is one of those tough to get ones that most consider to be a once in a lifetime thing. Same with the either sex permit down here.

I agree completely. Of course everything is completely white now since we got blasted by snow!

Struck out this year in N. Michigan. Antler restrictions (3 on one side) kinda made it hard as I only had a day and a half to hunt and one of those days was 40mph winds so not really good hunting weather. Of course I had a great time with father in law and co., many beers were drank, cards played and all that good stuff.

Overall, deer camp got 6 bucks and don't know the complete total of doe yet with muzzleloader still to come

Ya, it was -23 when we left the house this morning and we saw -28 on the truck's thermometer at one point during the drive in. Next 4 mights are supposed to be -20, -22, -17 and -9! Supposed to finally break out above zero Sunday with a balmy high of +5. I really dislike it when it is this cold for this long.

well in the northern states we get cold weather some times or all the time. beats the tornadoes and hurricanes for me. just drove home from the poker game at minus 14 degrees and it took most of the trip to get the car warm even after using the remote start for a while

What do you do with a live coyote and how did you get him in that box?

They are used to train hounds in Foxhound running pens. Several large ones in Arkansas, 1000 acres plus. Got a choke stick on his neck and grab him by the tail and stick him in there.

i'm not a hungter myself, but i fully see the merit in tracking down/killing/eating a deer, elk or whatever else. I ain't even mad at the chick that hunted the lion that was in the news over the past few weeks. but wft do you want with a dead beaver, otter and bobcat? do you stuff them or something? is it an overpopulation issue?

They all have really nice pelts. You can sell them or make a classy hat.

Kid brother drug me out on the ice yesterday afternoon for a few hours. Tonight, it's pan fried Bluegill

Not much size, but when you catch and fillet 22 of them, it makes for a great meal.

Furs sales my friend, fur sales. It's a pretty big thing in Michigan, though I've never done it. **** pelts are $15-20 a piece. A guy I know was trapping them, skinning them out, and the trading them to another guy for a 6 pack of beer. He was a little pissed when he found out he was swapping 3 pelts a week all season and getting shafted lol.

Bobcat pelts can sell for a pretty good amount of money. Anyone know the going rate this year for a good pelt?

I haven't heard this year, but I know in the past they started at $50ish and ran all the way up to $300ish on average (auction prices, what your local fur buyer pays will vary).

Be cool to find out what he gets for this one.

Prices for fur vary wildly by region. Last year prices were way up. Southern cats were bringing almost $100. Usually less than $50. Western cats can bring 3 or 4 times as much. Otters were also around $100 last year. Beavers $15-$20, plus you can sell the castor glands and my county gives a $5 bounty for each beaver tail. Southern coyote pelts are worth next to nothing, but live coyotes $50-$60 to the fox pens. Have a friend that is a professional trapper. Traps beavers for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife. Traps for hisself in the winter. Whatever I catch I give to him and he does all the skinning and gives me half the money.
