crachjr - how do you like that Emotion kayak?

I am looking to get into fishing from a kayak and I was looking at that exact one. It seems like a it would be a good first kayak to get into without spending $1000+. I would be using it mostly around the lakes and streams of MO and AK but also may take it down to the Gulf.

crashjr is living right!
Great video! Makes me want to be on the water RIGHT NOW!!!

I was finally able to get out over the weekend. The action was not "hot" but I did manage to catch enough gills and a walleye to have a great fish fry! So good!

May get out tomorrow and Saturday this long holiday weekend!

It has been a great entry level boat. Now that I've built up to a dozen plus miles a day an ranging 5+ miles offshore I'm wanting more boat, something like a hobie with mirage drive or importing a pro fisha from South Africa. I've had the mojo angler 2 full seasons plus and it is still a great boat. I should be able to get most of my money back out of it when it comes time to sell too, they are going around $500 used with mods.

So yeah, new to the sport it's a great entry level boat. If you never catch the fever and use it a few times a year for tooling around lakes and streams it will serve you well for years for a good price. If you start putting dozens of miles a month on it with other hardcore go getters you will start to develop kayak envy.

Ya, I would bet being in one of those little things in bad weather on the ocean would be a very bad deal.

From the pond Saturday. Caught a nice bunch of gills and had a wonderful fish fry that night! It was a good day.

The remains of the fish fry from our camping trip over the fourth. I got home a touch late from work, and this is all the kids left me. We slayed the sunfish and gills, and then caught a few perch that we kept. Other than that, we lost one monsterous Walleye at the boat (Grandpappy thought he could pull it in the boat without waiting for me to net it ooooops) and threw back a ton of Largemouth bass.

Add in some tater tots, and you've got the best dinner ever.

Thanks guys!

Winner takes home a 2013 Hobie outback with mirage drive, which is pretty much a Cadillac of fishing kayaks and would increase my speed and therefore range considerably.

Heaviest bottom fish wins, figure something 16 lbs + will be needed to take the prize. I'm releasing anything under 15 and going for the win with big bait and big tackle.

Good plan Crash. Go Big or Go Home!

I have put in my leave to go and spend next week at Canyon Ferry Reservoir with a buddy of mine, camping & fishing for walleye, perch and trout!

How does the tournament work? Are you only allowed to come back with one fish sort of like a silent bidding process?
The Great Outdoors - Hunting/Fishing/Trapping/Camping ect..... Quote

You can come back with a limit as set by ODFW. For this tournament, that means 7 rockfish only one of which may be a cabezon, and 2 lingcod. I will probably keep a lingcod over 12lbs if I get one to make sure I get on the board.

It definitely isn't silent. Poker players won't have much trouble adapting to the rampant bluffing and hollywooding, but it is comparable to poker in that there are only a few people with a decent chance to win. This setup is the most generous to a lucksack beginner's longshot chances. I have one a week later that is a ten fish two man team submission, much less forgiving and skill plays a huge role. I plan to ship that one too

Thanks for the explanation. I've done a lot of fishing over the years but never competition.

Good luck!

When we were fishing Salmon Tourneys heavy, they typically had an individual category with prizes/cash and a boat category (heaviest combined weight of X qty of fish in a day) with the same thing. They were insanely competitive and cheating ran rampant. At it's peak, there were a few events each year that the first place boat literally won another boat/10k cash/etc.

People would catch HUGE hogs in the rivers the past fall, and then try to claim they just caught them (King Salmon are silver and shine bright when fresh, when they go into the rivers they turn dark/black) or stuff the fish full of weight, etc. They would inspect the boats before heading out each day, but the inspection process really wasn't that great, and even then, there was nothing to stop you from running 10 miles offshore away from the pack, hooking up with another boat that had a MONSTER fish on it, and passing it from boat to boat.

My grandfather is the one that owned the boat when I was a kid. By the time I was a teen and a young 20 something, he couldn't handle Kings anymore (bad heart). Rather than sell the boat, I got to do all the dirty work (launching and loading the boat) and all the fun work (reeling in the fish) so that he could continue skippering it.

This past Fourth of July at the family camping trip we had a pontoon boat, on a little inland lake, at our disposal for the first time in ages. He wouldn't let anyone else run the boat, and we were on the water every morning before 6, and then back out every night religiously. That man loves being on the water fishing. We spent hours listening to stories about chasing Kings. He'd tell a story, and you could see the tears welling up as we re-lived some of life's greatest lesson, learned via fishing.

I'm desperately trying to buy a boat to chase kings with this fall. After everything that man has done for me, the least I can do is let him skipper a boat on the Great Lakes while he still has the health to do it.

Good luck in that tourney crash!

Thanks W!

I love going out with my dad. Most of my clamming reports I am out with my dad. He lives 5 minutes from the best razor clam bed in California. My kids love it too as long as the weather isn't too wet or windy.

I've been doing a whole lot of fishing with very mediocre results. 8 lb cabezon not even close for the Depoe bay tourney and down to Trinidad California for another tourney and managed a 12th place showing yesterday. Missed so many sets that I wanted to scream.

Clamming tides return tomorrow, going to take two of my young cousins for razors and try to regain some focus. I did manage to chop the Sunday NLHE freeze out tourney at chinook winds last weekend so at least there's that.

Just planned a camping trip to Clear Lake in Oregon, I've been there several times before. It lives up to its name and no motors are allowed, so I'll be in a canoe. Fishing of course. It has a petrified forest underwater which is both fascinating and a bit creepy at the same time.

Its nice up there. Some good brook trout fishing. Plus you aren't far from sisters. Lots of great lakes on that side of Oregon.
