Thread started at crashjr's request. I am expanding it to include all outdoor activities that anyone would like to talk about.

This is a thread to share all stories of the outdoors. Pictures are welcomed and encouraged as is the sharing of wild game recipes. I know I would really like to see some of those. This IS the Lounge so we do expect posts to have a good story, good questions or good thoughtful comments.

As always, this thread is NOT about discussing the merits of Hunting, Fishing or Trapping. So, anti-hunting types please just move along and do not bother reading or commenting. You want to do a thread about some sort of anti-hunting lunacy, start your own thread. Questions about hunting or anything in the great outdoors are welcomed as I am sure all the outdoor sportsmen we have here would be happy to answer.

This thread is open to all outdoors-men (and certainly Outdoor women as well) to answer questions and share adventures. Please, I do NOT want anyone thinking they are "not a lounge regular" or any sort of crap like that. If you like to hunt, fish or even trap jump in here. If you have questions, jump in here. Everyone is welcome, of course with the exception of trouble making anti-hunting, tree hugging, non-meat eating people who just want to stir up ****. Normal anti-hunting, tree hugging, non-meat eating folks are welcome.

I am not sure if this thing is going to work with pictures or not but here goes.

Awesome Crash. I really want to come to the west coast crapping some time. I have a buddy who goes out to Coos Bay and has a blast.

Makes me really hungry!

I was able to click through and see them. Nice bucks! California is lame in a lot of ways and one of them is that all deer hunts around here have been over for a couple weeks, and those were the "late season" hunts. No hunting the rut here.

Crash - Love the crabs..Fresh crab is so amazing. What kind? Rock or Dungeness or something else? The only time I ever tried from a kayak I ended up with only a starfish.

Nice Bucks Fish. Around here they don't usually get that big as there are too many. Had two wander through the yard on the weekend and one had bite and claw marks on his butt. Not just "men with guns" hunting around here.

Dungeness. Limit is 10 a day, 10 in possession. Confirmed delicious fresh, sometimes we even cook them right on the beach. We have rock crabs too, but not very many people target them. Rock crab claws are awesome in cioppino though.

Kayak fishing has exploded in popularity around here in the State of Jefferson, so much so that since the opener I've seen more kayakers than power boaters by a 2:1 ratio. 10 years ago almost no one went out on a kayak.

I've never hunted deer from a blind or a tree. I think I'd go stark raving mad.

I have friends like that around here and think it is a western thing. There is SO much country to cover that sitting still is hard to do. For instance, Saturday we covered almost 200 Miles in the truck and did several multi-mile hikes. Sunday we walked a lot but did not cover near as many miles in a vehicle.

I have done both types of hunting and am fine with either. I prefer stand hunting for archery and being on the move during rifle season. I have been doing more still hunting this year and it is how I got my whitetail doe. I am not all that good at it but I like the idea of moving really slow through timber and getting the drop on a deer that way.

Yup real norcal. That crabbing pic is at the mouth of the Eel river in Humboldt. I love poke poling the jetties for rockfish, eel, etc.

Today was better. Wind was blowing at me today and saw 3. Was my last day up north so had to take a shot at a smaller doe who decided she wanted to run

This was my second time hunting, got my gear this year and now time to find the gun I want for next year. People's favorite rifles itt? Probably going to get a .30-06 but would like to see what people in here hunt with.

Today, I waled from my home to my car, and the again from my car to my office. Then I had to repeat it later. It was light outside in the morning, but dark when I got home. It was about 60 degrees.

It was brutal.

ah, Humbolt...that's cheating, mang. I never would have posted that 12" rocky if I knew you were up in the land of jetty nirvana. I was actually drop shotting parallel to the half moon bay jetty.
minus tide season is here, so I have poke pole eel sessions in mind.

30-06 is a great caliber. I have a Wincheater in that caliber and really like it. Ammo is easy to get anywhere and it will certainly take down any animal you may run into. A couple of years ago I bought a Tikka T3 in 300 WSM and really like that gun. If I was going to buy another rifle I would most likely get another Tikka.

Pretty awesome that you mentioned Tikka. Saw some on Cabelas and they seemed to have some good reviews. My future father in law got a 9 point opening day, the other people at his camp got a 10,6,8, and a 5. Hopefully they saved some bucks for me!

I have a pre-'64 Winchester model 70 30-06, which is probably the most perfect deer rifle I have ever fired. I envision passing it down through the generations.

nice kayak, crash, looks like alot of fun. nice catches also, fish.

my friend has always offered to let me go hunting with him. don't think i have the accuracy for such (as i've only shot a gun once). add in the extra time waking up early and sitting there the entire time, meh, not for me.

can't wait until it's summer again. though, for my winter activities, i'll probably end up going skiing in a few months in colorado.
