They made me an offer, but I turned it down.

The job was in Dallas and I really didn't want to leave Austin at the time.

Dallas? That reminds me of this instant classic:

That song is so much better live, but that guy was a class act. Liked him alot.

Nice. I haven't heard this.

I see a few recognizable places. Donn's Depot, Continental Club. I used to go to Freddie's Place quite often.

If you haven't done it yet, Eeyore's Birthday is a must.

Yeah, I missed a few things while I was down there. This is the first time I heard of Eeyore's Birthday though.

Oh yeah, there are a lot ukelele players in Austin. They also aren't afraid to play uke + heavy metal or uke + rap or other things.

Willie is still a big deal down there.

Been spending the past few days writing and recording some music. I have to say, using computers ends up being a decent tool for this stuff.

Mind that i only know how to play the guitar, so I've been adding in drum loops and layering tracks. I have no idea of it sounds universally good, but it's a lot of fun. It's also a lot of work. Two days has netted me 45 seconds of usable music.

I also have to record some videos since I have nothing new online. I'm dreading that and keep on pushing it back. Any excuse is good enough to not do it, like:

- I only slept 12 hours last night. I look tired and should wait until I have ample sleep

- I haven't showered in 2 days and can't look like this on camera.

- I need a haircut.

- I scratched my arm on a branch.

Jimmy Clitheroe?

Hmmmm. Be careful how you say that name.

So, last night, I went to an open mic. I didn't know it was MLK day, but I guess that also meant that no one cared to go out drinking or playing music. There was the host, me, some dude who I won't bother discussing, and duet that decided to leave because they can't play without a crowd. That meant that we could pretty much play for however long we wanted.

I get up on stage and give it my all for the audience of 2 people: the host and the bartender, lol. I think I did pretty good. Pretty much didn't give a damn and sort of got into my own head, randomly jumping from piece to piece and doing some improv.

I get off stage, cool down, and then decide to call it an evening. I go up to the bar and the bartender comes near and holds my arm when I tell her that I'd like to close my tab. I did so and left.

John Cole, would you say I ****ed up again?

(that brief interaction was the first time I've ever seen her or been within 100 yards of her)

Dave,

If I understood women at all, I would probably say you ****ed up again. But lately I've been accused of being cold, lacking a heart, and all sorts of other untrue things. Of course, I just got back from an annual neurology visit, and the nurse couldn't get a blood pressure reading on me, despite the machine working fine on her. I said maybe what my friends say is true: I do lack a heart.

Eh, I'll go back week.

My fun at doctors is getting my blood drawn. I always leave the hospital with so many track marks, it looks like I've been heroin for the past decade.

Go back next week and write a trip report. Link to your videos would be nice too.

Ray, be kind. If she were holding your arm or mine, she would be attempting to steady a couple old men, but Dave is a different story.

Man, maybe this is heresy, but I thought Ghost Dog was a stinking turd. So much time wasted just driving around, and SWIRLING YOUR GUN INTO ITS HOLSTER LIKE YOU ARE A KID PLAYING WITH A SWORD FOR THE FIRST TIME ARE YOU ****ING KIDDING ME? Couldn't get past those things.

Ghost Dog and Unbreakable: two movies that movie people somehow seem to like that I absolutely hated and mocked. **** you, Mr. Glass.

Edit: Man, I watched the 9/12 clip just to see if I was off base. HE GRATUITOUSLY PULLS OUT A SECOND GUN TO SHOOT A GUY A SECOND TIME WHEN HE IS ALREADY HOLDING A GUN THAT IS MORE THAN UP TO THE ALREADY OBVIOUSLY UNNECESSARY TASK OF SHOOTING HIM AGAIN. THEN HE GOES INTO THE HOUSE AND IS TRYING TO BE A ****ING SHOOTING BALLE****INGRINA, NOT A DAMN ASSASSIN.

Uganda oh yeah!

that clip wherein he's addressing the huge crowd, saying, "I am you... I know everything about you." or something.. I was inspired to lift that sentiment today at work, 'cause a kid came in to interview with my supervisor, telling me he had an interview with Mr. Hale at 1 p.m.

I thought to go tell him, while he was eating lunch, that his 1 o'clock appointment had arrived. Imagining that he'd query, "How do you know?" lol "I am you, boss, I know who you are, and everything that you are."

Pop culture regurgitations are all I am.

I will go back. It's not the best open mic I've been to, but not the worst either. The host did take a photo of me while I was playing. I was thinking of screaming: "No flash photography! Anyone does that again, I'm leaving!"

I tell everyone the same thing: I hate all my music equally, however some have a special disdain. What kind of music do you like and how forgiving are you of horrific recordings? I'll post a few next, I guess....

This was my instinct. I am, after all, a musician and it's no secret how cheap and broke we are.

I've gotten along with most bartenders of course, but there is that thick wooden line between me and them that's never been crossed.
01-17-2018 , 05:38 AM
Okay, so this is the piece everyone likes the most... Or more accurate, this is the recording everyone likes the most. When I'm playing live, people like other stuff much better.... It happens to have the most likes of my videos.

And this is the piece that can got an applaud the other night (It's very heavy, so put up your devil horns):

And this is a bit of old country stuff using a bit of flat-picking techniques, more of less:

I have much more complex stuff that I'm going to be recording when I'm feeling up to it (never, obv), but I'm just so much better live. People who hear my recordings are quite shocked by the contrast, lol.

And this is me working with a bunch of EDM drum loops. Sorry, it's not that good, but sort of the direction I've been taking my music lately...

Feel free to give your most honest opinions. I know my music isn't for everyone and I'm cool with that.

How does it feel to be easy listening?

I kid. I put it on background and let them all go. Except for the metal.
Enjoy your style. But I'm an unsophisticated sucker for anything guitar.
01-17-2018 , 01:15 PM
Yeah, I'm pretty easy listening. I don't want to be, but alas, I was an acoustic guitarist who mainly studied classical for a long time.

It's also what I mean by my recordings and me in person. That music has to stand alone and unfortunately, strumming alone wouldn't keep anyone's interest (though I have stuff that is more "rock" I guess). It's very difficult / impossible to really rock when you are finger-picking without something else to go along with it, and I'm also getting used to working with an amp on high gain. I have a lot of ideas but not much that's good standalone.

I'm of two minds. I try to create stuff that hopefully sounds beautiful, but I also hope to make music that gets people on the dance floor.

Do you ever cover or sing? Take requests? Hallelujah by LCohen?
I would comment or like on YT, but not signing up or registering.
