This one felt much, much easier than the first one, but I only improved my score from 26 to 31, so I guess it wasn't that much easier.

(They just asked #49 on the show last week.)

I got 41/50 last night. Anyone know where the pass / fail line is?

I missed all of the literary questions (Puck's tux, Chatterley, V. Hugo (said Dumas), Hesse and Eliot -- that's a category I'll have to skip), the ankle (guessed knee), Katy Perry (sorry, I'm over 40), guessed New Jersey for the Real Housewives (same reason) and went Degas instead of Renoir, and that was about it.

Pulled Algeria out of nowhere at the last second, erasing Libya. Furlough came to me late too.

Fun process. Only real issue is that there weren't any near-Chicago second round cities to choose from. I would have picked KC, but if I have to fly someplace anyway, I'll just go to LA.

You're telling me. I'm in Houston and the nearest cities were either Kansas City (which I picked) or Orlando, FL. WTF? How is Dallas not on there? It's typically treated as a major travel hub. I thought that was really stupid of them.

Not really the point. Obviously its possible, but the chances he's merely lying or exaggerating, on an internet forum, massively dwarf any chance that he just trivially scored a 46. He may have done so, but if you believe him, you are probably dumb.

I'm naturally cynical, but 44 or 45 seems plausible to me. And I sure wouldn't be rude enough to be flat-out calling him a liar. vhawk, that's what you're doing. Politics forum incivility right here, in all its glory.

I can't promise I'd have read/typed fast enough to answer 44 or 45 questions correctly under pressure, since I've never taken one of the online tests--I've never bothered, since I'm ineligible. (You can take your own guesses as to why that might be.) But I can assure you that I knew 44 of the correct answers as soon as I read the questions. I've watched the show since I was a kid, I played quiz bowl in high school and college, I played trivial pursuit with my parents when I was little (lol nerd, I know), I read lots of magazines, newspapers, and nonfiction, etc.

Holy crap, tonight's was a nightmare.
I got 27 on Tuesday and 31 on Wednesday, and figured I might be able to make the hurdle tonight.
If I got 20, I'll be stunned.

Tonight was my first one. I did all the previous ones in this thread as warm-ups, and I usually scored between 36 & 40 on them. But that was just me and my keyboard.

Tonight during the actual test I also brought up a second browser window in which I was able to Google a couple of the ones I was unsure of. There's no way in the world I ever would have known the author of some obscure books*, but Google only told me that answer at the 13-second mark, which didn't leave me time to type it in, and I probably wouldn't have typed it in anyway since there's no way I would have known that answer. There were several other answers** that I knew, and I typed them in the answer box before doing a Google check, and it was nice to see that Google confirmed my original guess just as the 15 seconds was expiring.

I'd guess my score was about 43-45, and I think it would have been 41-43 without Google. If accobra posts the Q&A for tonight's quiz, then I'll have a more accurate count.

I don't get it. Nowhere did you say that you got an extra 2 answers from Google, yet you think you scored 2 higher with Google?

got 32 on 1st and 2nd test, just reading them on here. of course i ****ing forgot about the test every day since tuesday and missed them all. next year i guess ****.

I got 39, and if I knew any geography, I'd get a few more. I have one friend I know would get around 45 easy.

I think I would have done really well on the Wednesday set.

I wonder how many people have someone behind them helping them out. If the person taking the test is really bad, of course they won't make it on the show, but I bet there are many people who just need a bit of a push to make it through to the next step and would do fine on the show.

You still have to pass another (in-person) written test in a similar format to make it onto the show. And if you can't get 35-40 or more on the online test, you probably wouldn't do well on the show.
