Turns out crash dieting and exercising for 7 hrs a day is not a sustainable path to long-term weight loss, who knew?

I was reading up a little on what those fatties go thru on that show, it's really sadistic/masochistic. The terrorists at Gitmo probably get treated better than that! Now a weight loss show I used to love was Celebrity Fit Club on VH1. Lots of good personality drama but they didn't go crazy with the health stuff. Like Screech (Dustin Diamond) was an epic ******* and ended up leaving early, everybody wanted to kill him. Pretty damn good for a reality show.

I always thought it sucked that they made the guys do their weigh-ins shirtless. Like, we get it. They're fat. There was no point to it, other than to make it them seem even more like sideshow attractions.

Besides rather often theire weight is causes with different illnesses and I see nothing funny in this at all
I suppose that this cult of hate towards them is created by all that fashion labels and companies who sell the training equipment like here Some people simply want to make money from this problem and other suffer because of that... Sad but true
Spoken like a true fatty. I've got the over on 350lbs.

As someone who has gone through phases of both obesity and leanness, with surprisingly fast transitions between them, I think that, unless one has really severe metabolism issues, the main reason for obesity is lack of exercise, while the main trigger of meagerness is stress.

So, although I'm pleased aesthetically by plump women, when I see someone in a developed country whose weight is deviant in either direction, I tend to jump to a (sometimes false) conclusion that something else is wrong with their life and they know well what.

Obesity is about 80% diet ****. (Hilarious that 2+2 sometimes censors your name BTW)

Yeah tend to agree. I often see fat people on the treadmill at the gym. Some of them have been there regularly for years, and they don't look like they've lost any weight. First off they are just walking at a slow pace, I mean how many calories can that burn? But mainly it seems obvious that they can't be doing much about their diet if their weight never changes.

I think a lot of people just do some moderate exercise like walking on the treadmill, because it's easy and they can feel like they are doing something. The fact that their weight never changes is beside the fact.

I mean, if you do 200cal worth of exercise and reduce your intake by 800cal...

The reduction of daily calories don't seem enough: somehow the spontaneous buckwheat diet* isn't making me thinner this time around, perhaps because I'm consuming too much oil with it or because I'm drinking too much water.

* Funnily enough, it's been prompted rather by the desire to reduce the number of grocery trips per month than by the blurry objective to lose weight.

Thanks for putting me on the right trail! I'm afraid I've actually developed pedal edema recently but was confusing it with other diseases.

I need to cut my salt intake dramatically, it's been out of control lately.

Sorry for the derailment, my latest ramblings itt rather belong in H&F but I'm afraid of its inherent criticism

Lol at the fatties that don't understand why people hate them. The vast majority don't have a thyroid condition etc. to blame being fat on.

So the overweight are hated because:

1.) They have no self control/eat too much.

2.) They're flat out lazy.

3.) They don't give a **** about how they look/no self respect.

There's probably a lot more reasons.

Why don't we all write a list about why we hate the overweight!

How about they take up more space, generally don't smell pleasant and are visually not appealing?

I'd say it's 99% diet.

The only reason I have 1% left over is because I can't put a number on people with special conditions, so we'll give them a full 1%. I would say it's probably a fraction of that 1%.

It's all diet. Sure, exercise has an impact, but for anyone who's ever struggled with weight we all know that you can work out like a maniac, but if you keep eating like a slob you'll eventually gain it all back the day you stop working out. Food is the key. It always has been and it always will be.

Although I do think some regular physical exercise has psychological benefits to a fat person. This in turn can help the diet work. A person who never exercises does not see themselves as a fit or healthy person. They tend to just sit around watching TV and this makes them feel even more fat and down on themselves. And of course TV time is often snack time.

Exercise is good for your state of mind and helps with mild depression, which I suspect many fat people might struggle with.

Yeh snacking's definitely a killer, and a lot of people will do it when they are bored. I eat very healthy, but I'm a grazer. If I get into bad habits of sitting around all day, I find myself just eating little things constantly.

The benefit of being active, not even necessarily exercising but just doing something, is that you can't snack.

Thread seems to be dominated by a group of staunch anti-fatties as of late. Would you like there to be even more "fat shaming" than presently occurs? Are these fatties getting off easy?

I caught captain America today and it was a crowded theater.
Some 300 pound beast came in looking for a seat. No way she wasn't spilling over on both sides.

I felt bad for whomever she got her blubber ass next to.

The better question is, if she knew his opinion of her pre hotness, should she still give him a shot? And the answer is no.

If someone gives you a pass because of poorness or fatness or whatever objective reason, if (or when) life takes a 180 in your financial and/or looks department, and now the same person is interested, it is imperative that you shoot them down in return. Sure they had good reason to pass initially when you were fat and poor, and it speaks to reason that their attitude should be different now that you're well-off and attractive, but it's only fair that you find another hottie (who probably also would have passed on you when you were fat and poor if they knew you then.) In a sense, the first person just ran bad in this spot for declining you before you were a catch. How could they know? They couldn't. But thems the breaks.

(Obv this doesn't apply if you're easy-going, forgiving, understanding, not interested in vengeance, etc.)
